I am scared to get that test. It affects my family at a very young age, the one bright side is that it skips a generation.

Agree. In Thailand we'll buy the bags of crab meat from the seafood markets occasionally but the chances of it being nice are 50-50. However, in Australia where Queensland mud crabs are found, we buy them often. Would not like one of these fuckers to lock-on to a finger or toe, the guys who catch them for a living would have plenty of good stories to tell! You can get the same crabs here of course, but I've never seen one that was of any decent size.

Warm water crab will never taste as good as cold Northern Hemisphere dungey and King, no matter how big it is. There is a reason the boys go after that King crab in the Bering Sea in the middle of winter.

That cold water is nutrient dense, and the fish and crab just taste better the farther north they go.

^Matter of opinion I guess. I've eaten plenty of King crab before and it's ok, but I prefer the sweeter taste of a mud crab. Actually, I'd take a Lobster over any of them.

All this talk of chili earlier in the week has inspired me to make one today. Chitty, you're an inspiration to us all!

    The spice combo

    Dinner-spices-jpg

Get the Declan Rices (this one's for you, Cy ) in nice and early with the meat IMO. Good enough to eat already if you have some tacos to hand.

Interestingly, this is what your toilet bowl will look like the next day if Chits ever invites you round for dinner.

Now just let it work its magic for a few more hours...

Wow, all the crab talk induced me to make up a batch of crab cakes tonight. I've made the cakes, but I want to let them spend the evening hanging out in the fridge before cooking a couple for lunch tomorrow to sample. We made about 8 nice sized patties out of a kilo of crab. The patties started out about softball size before forming.

That crab looks good, but I'm still not convinced it's worth the effort.

Hal make sure you mix your chilli with some rice and cheese for the full effect.
Kids have been eating Mexican Mission wraps with that superb filling all week for lunch.
I could see they were getting a bit fed up with it this morning so I added some guacamole to the fusion , went down a treat.
I've still got about half a kilo of the chilli n rice mix in the fridge, looks like it's the dogs lucky night.

    Where's your Mexican?
Or did you skip straight to the worm at the bottom of the Tequila bottle?

Those greens are baby trees, aka broccoli you heathen of the kitchen.
Those are new potatoes, mushrooms, 2 lamb chops and a pork chop all covered in lumpy bisto gravy.

Not a hint of roasted garlic either, I leave that barbaric practice for wannabe foodies.

I presume you mean £2 pounds per plate and the actual mean came in at £8 or £10 but even then a pack of pork chops and pack of lambs chops for that price is either you won a meat tray raffle or bought the food over the best after date

I'll have you know that what fresh today and all sourced locally.
It had potential to be a 9 or 10 out if 10 if it wasn't for the rushed lumpy gravy.

    Anyhow, where's Hals Mexican?

    It's actually not Broccoli ... it's Broccolini

While it might look like it, Broccolini is not baby broccoli. This lanky vegetable is a hybrid; first created in 1993, it’s a cross between broccoli and Chinese broccoli. It has small florets, long stalks, and a few small leaves — all of which are edible.

Compared to the bitter flavor of regular broccoli, Broccolini is more mild, with a sweet, earthy taste. And while it can be eaten raw, Broccolini is best when cooked. It can be sautéed, steamed, roasted, and grilled.

You didnt answer the question; dumpster diving, donations from St Vincent's for poor families or canny purchasing from the bargain basement for past use by date food?

Stayed there a couple of times when I first started coming to KKC. Very nice place and reasonably priced . I was not aware of the Sushi place in the basement. I go by it very often when we go to the morning market which is near by, so next time I di I will look to see if the restaurant is still there. Thank you for that tip, sorry it took me so long to reply, I just noticed your post.
