Yes indeed. My first invitation in almost a year. She has a canny and economical head on her shoulders and has moved herself into the garage so she can rent her 4th bedroom.

    Dinner-img_20210922_232719-jpg

It is not even double garage. Respect.

    Dinner-img_20210923_010040-jpg

Note cunning use of garage roller track as wardrobe hanger.

That’s certainly canny, but obviously violates several council codes.

Tell me, as a Greek chap, would I be cheating tomorrow too much if I woke up with a hangover, eschewed the walk to the shop, and just made the stew without it and maybe used an Italian pasta like penne?
Have you been to the Greek club in Cairo yet, Hal. You can get Greek food and drink there. It's quite a pleasant place to spend a few hours. At least it was the last time I was there. It's located in/near Talat Harb, not too far from the hotel you are/were staying at.

And if you want decent pizza or Italian food, I recommend Maison Thomas on 26th of July Street in Zamalek, assuming it is still there.

I have indeed (I was also here a while ago)! There are a few other places, presumably run by Christians of Greek heritage, where you can get similar fare. Do you know Estoril just off Talaat Harb? I was in there last week and that had some Greek dishes on the menu as well as Middle Eastern stuff.

Maison Thomas is indeed still here and Zamalek is still a pretty cool place to be!

When were you here, Nev? The old British Club is no longer here, or not as we knew it anyway, but the Swiss Club is alive and well.

Do the neighbours not complain about the smoke (I may have asked this before and forgotten your reply)?

It's been a long while since I was there. About 20 years. Good to see Maison Thomas is still around. I used to live across the road from it. There was a nice little juice bar not far from Maison Thomas that I bought juice from often, and a small shop where you could buy fresh fish and they'd even cook it for you if you asked them. And I lived downtown near Tahrir Square for a while too - Talat Harb or Tahrir Road, can't remember which one. Talat Harb was always a favourite place for me. Had many a lunch in the Bustan Centre near there. I don't know Estoril restaurant. I am sure a lot has changed since I was last there. Would love to visit again sometime.

Looks like you were laid out on the floor when you took that picture. That Givas regal must be strong stuff.

That coke bottle needs a coaster. Otherwise you'll lose your deposit.

I am hitting the fruitilicious rouge bubbles tonight to wash down my blokes chicken schnitzel strips and dips with the offbeat movie The Card Counter from Paul Schrader

I forgot to take a picture of the German schnitzels so here is a German Panzer IV instead.

It was the Wehrmacht's armoured division workhorse against the swarms of Stalin's T-34s, with 8500 being built

I am waiting on a new set of Taliban decals for this Humvee with a Stinger missile rack. Just to bring it historically up to date from its former life with the US 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

Technically not allowed in this building. There is a shared BBQ pit downstairs, but it was been closed since COVID. Because everyone knows that BBQs cause COVID. The coals that I use do not smoke much, and I'm fortunate that the few neighbours we have do not seem to mind (or have noticed yet).

Nope, the corn came from a can and the carrots and string beans were fresh. Sautéed until tender and then served.

Wife made one of my favorites.
Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. I must had been a good boy
but we had to sleep under separate coverings tonight. Broccoli has that effect on me . I was just happy that i was allowed to sleep in the same room.

    ^^^Looks choicilicious Banzai

Tandoori chicken dinner for me tonight

    Dinner-img_20210928_213124-jpg

In 2 months it will be the 80th anniversary of the torpedo bombing and sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbour

She was a 1916 super-dreadnought whose design was inspired by the revolutionary HMS Dreadnought of 1906

Beneath the waves she has lain these past 8 decades in pieces due to the detonation of her magazine when the torpedo struck.

But thanks to a government grant I have received I will be raising her from the murky depths and rebuilding her to her former glory as a monument to the 1,177 souls that went beneath with her

    Watch this space...

If anybody knows of a good sub-sea ROV for hire for scoping and planning purposes please send details by PM!
