So since my lady and I have both been fully vaccinated we decided to venture out for some Korean ayce BBQ. We tried a new place because my lady is a foodie, and she likes to try new places. Well this time it did not pay off and will the meats were entirely edible the banchan was super weak and lacking. Still grubbed down but not as good as our regular spot.
Compared to the regular place pre-covid...
Next time back the regular place.
Just never got into that kinda stuff. All too itty bitty, and for one mouthful you have to cook and mix up about 6 different things. Not into cooking at a restaurant anyway, just give me a plate of food ffs.
No need to crop out yer uncle, I'm sure he's a nice and friendly guy.
I enjoy a decent Korean BBQ.
Yeah there's some top Korean food in Sydney.
I used to work near Hyde Park in '89 and did similar for lunch.
Take a day off Cryall.
not impressed with korean food. find it a bit meh to be honest. its the macau of cuisines. sounds great on paper but a bit underwhelming when experienced.
I really enjoyed it in Korea.
Yet to find anything really decent anywhere else since (although it hasn't exactly been an exhaustive search either, to be fair).
^ a man after my own heart....
Whoa! That can't pass without some balancing. Macau has many great places to eat. Maybe it depends upon what you want to classify as 'Macanese Cuisine', some places call themselves Portuguese and some places Chinese and it is all a bit of a mixture which, since it is made in Macau, I am happy to think of as Macanese.
I think most people would put African chicken, crab congee and the local crab curry as core Macanese, along with the Egg Tart. Plenty of other dishes you could label as Portuguese like rabbit stew, octopus salad, clams in white wine and some of the seafood dishes are of Cantonese origin. Still, for me, if I eat it in Macau it has a local flavour and, more importantly, I love it all. A thousand years ahead of Isan cuisine.
I think you misunderstood my meaning, i actually liked the food in Macau.
But as a place to visit, i was excited before i went but didnt find it that stimulating when i was there.
nothing wrong with it, nice in pieces, a bit underwhelming IMHO.
exactly like Korean Food. A bit bland.
Wasnt blown away with the food in Portugal either (compared to Spanish)
wine was good though
i will join you in taking an egg tart over pla raa though
we won it at wemberlee
we on it in gay paree...
Yes, I seem to have misunderstood your point.
Macau is all about gambling, no great reason to visit if you don't gamble, (which I don't) apart from the food. The government keeps telling the casinos to be more family friendly resorts and they make a good show of it, still it is mainly about baccarat.
The food however is great and the wine even greater. Dinner is best enjoyed with a group of friends and subject to 'Macau Rules':
1. Any food item retrieved from the floor within five seconds is still edible.
2. Minimum wine consumption is one bottle of wine per person, at least one of which must be port.
Seeing as I'm staying close to the Mekong I thought I'd have fish and chips last night...
The fish was great but they covered it in this disgusting yellow gloop. Why would you do that?
To be fair they did do me another.
^ Holy shite, that is a new low. You should have complained the left some areas uncovered. Nice they laid it on lettuce just to make sure it didn't stay crispy for long.

Damn annoying, probably thought they were being different and sophisticated.
Least they did you another one.
Reminds me of a time in Thailand when I ordered the full month, I was really looking forward to it as it had been a while.
So out it comes from the kitchen looking a picture of perfection except.....argggg...they'd covered it in pepper!
Wtf.
Shalom
^Winner winner chicken dinner
Hard to say why something as simple as roast chicken with mash and gravy is sooooo good, but it just is.
I am no fan of the yellow gloop either. They seem to buy it in Makro. I have asked, just so that I never buy it by mistake.
The gf is now trained. Whenever the menu shows a bit of grated veg that is passed off as a salad she will instruct them not to apply gloop of any colour. They don't always listen though.
^ Last night I had a chicken salad... and that was covered in the yellow gloop as well. It must take them ages as it's applied in this intricate lattice pattern, and then I scrape it straight off.
I've learnt my lesson now and tonight I'll ask for no gloop.
