Made a burger out on the grill along with my hand cut fries. Left the top off to show that nice melted cheddar.

Is Peter Vella actually wine? Does the word wine appear anywhere on the packaging?
Shutree... I bought the Tartare Sauce from the Freshmart Supermarket in The Mall, Korat. Makro in Korat used to stock it but I haven't seen it there for a long time. A lot of Western stuff seems to have gone missing from Makro lately and I wonder if it's due to limited flights during Covid?

I'm surprised Udon doesn't have a place that stocks Western produce as I've been led to believe there are a lot more Westerners there than in Korat?

As for Peter Vella... despite it's taste I think it must be a wine... it's made at Siam Winery using Californian grapes by all account. But you're correct, I can't see any mention of 'wine' on the packaging, but what else could it be?

I you are bored with covid, your kitchen is too clean and you don't have any pasta. You can fix all that by making your own,
Search YouTube for "home made pasta'
    Dinner-toasted12-jpg
Basically you make a volcano with all purpose Flour, (I used half all purpose flour , half semolina)
    Dinner-four-jpg
crack three eggs in the middle, pinch of salt, a tablespoon of olive oil, Beat the mixture together.
    Dinner-four-eggs-jpg
Make a dough, knee the dough for about right minutes. then cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 30 minutes. foul it in thirds and roll a few times.
    Dinner-dough1-jpg
Then roll it thin and cut in strips. you can also use the top of a jar and cut circles to make raviolis. I used Feta cheese to fill them. (I have a lot more pictures, but TD quit downloading loading pictures again. Find a vid on Youtube for more instructions . When making raviolis wipe a little egg white on the cadges so that they stick together.
So by now you are no longer bored, your kitchen is a mess, and you got pasta.
    Raviolis filled with Feta Cheese.
Boiled, then toasted in olive oil and garlic. and sprinkled with grated Romano cheese

    Thank you for that.
The picture posting process in this Forum has to be the most frustrating and difficult I have ever seen.
But it did keep me busy for a couple of hours LOL

And as for our kitchen... the wife gives it a good clean every six months, whether it needs it or not.

Talking about spaghetti reminded me of a story. About 30 years ago I was working with a young Irish guy and he told me about his experience of eating spaghetti the first time.
When he moved to London he cooked it up and ate it but didn't like it at all so when he came to Perth and went to his friends house for dinner he was aghast when they told him they were having spaghetti as the main meal.
He was even more surprised to see them cover his spaghetti with a mince sauce and then add some cheese. He loved it!
I couldn't believe he had eaten straight spaghetti must have tasted like crap.

When I was a young pup, I went out on a date , and wanting to impress the girl with my sophistication I ordered the Pasta al dente . I thought it sounded very continental and did not know it meant "not cooked very well"
So when the food came I took a bite . and I was like " What the hell is this" so I called the waiter over and and complained that the Pasta al dente was not cooked very well LOL
Good thing I did not recommend the Soup Du Jour " hey honey have the soup Du Jour, I had it yesterday and it was very good!!

Thanks. Udon has Tops and they sell mint sauce amongst other farang fare, but the gf doesn't enjoy lamb, she prefers fish and there is no tartare sauce to be found at Tops or at Makro.

The 'wine' question is a bit tangential to the dinner thread although many people like a glass of wine with dinner so I'll not create a new thread. Suffice to say that just about every boxed or bagged wine seems on close examination not be be unadulterated wine from grapes alone. Most have weasel words like "fruit wine product' in English or in Thai.

The man who runs the liquor store close to Udon Thani Immigration tells me they are wine-based mixtures.

Someone here might know the details.

Things are getting back to the new normal. The wife hit Bangkok proper for shopping with girlfriends. Brought back dinner from a street food shop. Combination of Pad Woon Sen Plaa and Khanom Chin Nam Plaa. Also a few Isan Fermented Sausage. Dessert of mango and som oh (pomelo), along with some Thai candy. A good meal. Nice variety and a nice bit of a change from our usual rice dishes.

^ Bowie... I usually love the food you put up... but a couple of issues tonight.... with respect I find those Isaan sausages so fatty that I get heart burn... very rare for me and I refuse them. If the wife brings them home I sneak 'em to the dogs!

And what are those wiggly things in the dessert???

All else great by the way!

I've heard if some things from Isaan described like a golden pocket of love... but not the snags.

Isaan fermented sausage - always enjoy them and never had a problem with them.

The squiggly things are some kind of soft Thai candy - processed sugar in one form or another. I don't eat them. Very rare they even make an appearance. Wife only ate about half of them, the rest went into the garbage. Really stuff for children.

So, a bit of good news on the Moo Baan vendor route. Neighbor placed a large order of fruits. We got to pick over the lot for the very best. Nice haul for all of THB 650.

Wife worked her magic with knife and stove. Tom Yum Talay and Spiced Chicken with Vegetables. Very, very good. Tom Yum correctly spiced (as was the chicken & veggies). Tom Yum spiced correctly causing the throat to constrict, eyes to water and nose to run.

Dessert of Longan and Gnot (rambutan).

Just got to love the Thai dinner table – gastronomical delights…
