Settle down. The volume of pea and bean content in his pics would require a public vote. His "English" home cooking doesn't float everyone's boat on TD.

Plenty of other good cooks on here.

I would nominate headworx as well as AO to the list.

Nice of you to share your award with your inspiration.

You've finally worked it out, well done - only took you about 3 weeks.

&, yes, I love Brucie. He went to the same school as me...

I'm certainly no cook... just picked some basics along the way and have way too much time on my hands... and a swanky new phone to take the pics!

You've put me in a quandary now... I had a very enjoyable pie baking session this morning... house to meself, Neil Diamond full volume and the pastry even rolled out without breaking!

I even had enough pastry left over to make some sausage rolls!

I was gonna show off a steak and kidney pie dinner tonight, but now I'm worried it's too "English home cooking"...

Pictures and the 2020 title of TD Chef of the Year could be yours... (Mendip would lose his rag though, he loves the prizes - what do points make?)

I know you had a go at beef stew the other night. Have you ever used a slow cooker/crock pot before? If so you should consider picking one up. I use it all the time and it makes excellent stews, chili, slow cooked BBQ ribs etc etc. All you have to do is chuck all the ingredients in and come back 8 hours later and dinner is served.

You missed out there i your childhood. Stew with dumplings (herbed or not) was a favorite of my growing up. Must say, had not thought of them in years.

Time to get into a bit of baking for the wife and I rather than homestay guests. First off was a variation of a pineapple upside down cake. Added the content of an own grown passionfruit. Was worried it might be too much but the passionfruit flavour turned out to be subtle. Quite liked it. Went down a treat with some vanilla ice cream.

Not last night's fare, but I'm wont to make a stew once in a while ; this is chicken with lots of seasonal locally grown veg... and dumplings of course

No suet - just butter, flour, water, salt, pepper, a little thyme and a squeezed cloved of garlic.

Doing potato and leek soup with toasted sourdough this evening. Shall post results.
