Had this little lot last night , it's crispy som tam made with grated carrot that is fried in a tempura type batter it's fooking lovely . I can't believe I have been with her for 13 years and she has only just made this , she usually makes that other crap with the fermented cancer in it ! Oh I thought I would include a decent beer as well for all the poor folk who have to make do with Leo and some sushi curtesy of Tesco , all in all a very nice supper .

^^ Why are you eating on the floor?
    Did someone steal your table?

On the somtum, there are a few regional dishes that are rarely seen but very nice, down south they make a sort of cross between somtum and fried rice which is brilliant.

Didn't think a mug of Guinness would of looked right with the pink table cloth

She knows I can't sit on the floor because it makes my back and knees hurt so she thinks I won't be able to eat the food thus leaving more for her .

Went out for dinner tonight, Cherry's on 3rd Road which most Pattaya locals would be familiar with have a set menu lobster promo on Mondays. First off was a mixed bread plate with tomato-onion salsa then an appetizer of a small quiche tart (no pic).

Then came the entree, BBQ prawn and bug tails with a garlic butter dipping sauce. Bloody beautiful it was. Then came a palate cleanser of lime sorbet with mint leaves (no pic)

Then a 500gr Lobster Thermidor with a choice of rice or vegetables on the side. Salad bar is also included

Then a choice of 3 desserts and tea or coffee, We were drinking wine anyway so no need for hot beverages, but the banana split was good .

Cost for this (excluding a bottle of wine) was the princely sum of 490 Baht a head. How they do it for that price is beyond me but it was a very nice dinner

    Sounds cheap.
Didn't know they had bugs here, love chilli bugtails.

Prawns and bugs look nice but the lobster looks way rank....

Bugs are here by the ton, between 500-900 per KG depending on the season (scarcity) and their size at the Naklua seafood markets. I'll put some pics up next time I buy and boil some up, which is at least once a month.

The lobster was fine, cooked well and the cheese/sauce was tasty.

Found a new butchery to try out a few days ago.

So the sampler pack was 2 x Ribeye and 1 x Striploin, all Australian Black Angus.

So 1 medium rare Ribeye onto a plate. The sides were mashed potato with chopped spring onions mixed in, and peas that were simmered, drained, then rolled around in mint sauce. I have a shitload of gravy's and sauces in the kitchen cupboards, but only added salt and pepper as this was all about testing the taste / quality of the meat. It passed with flying colours, for any Pattaya locals the supplier was Hickory Meats on Thappraya Rd.

Well I'd call you a "coont" too, but you obviously lack the warmth and depth

Some peoples dislike of Gravox and similar products is understandable, but I really like the convenience of just snipping a corner off, nuking for 40 seconds, and that's the gravy side of things sorted no matter what the dish is. I can make them from scratch (it's ain't a rocket science) but it's not worth the effort unless we're talking roasts and their pan juices. Maybe if having friends over and a bit of effort should be shown, but just for myself?. Fuck that.

Agree with Patsy. E coli just waiting to happen...

I also decided to eat pie today, I went with a 'rustic' meat and potato.
I actually made two, those of you with an eagle eye will be able to tell.

Don't worry about the little things like ecoli, a tough constitution can handle that.

Your pie however seems to have a cockroach half embedded in it.....

Was this an Issan rustic country beef pie?

    ^ Gravy...And I don't live in Issan!

    I also stated, 'rustic.'

And if that's puff pastry, I'm Willies fookin' uncle.

    Hah...rustic meaning "with insects"

lets see you try making puff pastry in a 34c kitchen.
Very proud of that I was.....
