^ Affirmative - occasionally vary when I'm in Bangkok. But, for the most part I'm traveling with and accompanied by Thai's - foreign food to them is cost prohibitive. I'd say Thai food is healthy; pork, chicken, fish, but, the spices and sauces defeat that. If I don't exercise I gain weight. The real problem is, I do enjoy eating. We all have our crosses to bear...

I would agree and I think I could eat it maybe three days a week before I would be craving other things. Like last nights roast chicken dinner...

Yup - but there is enough variety to keep it balanced. I do miss the beef - but, as I get it infrequently enough, the poor quality beef available here is fine. Even in the Northeast US, when I compared steak available it fell far short of the best corn fed Indiana beef.

You make do with what you got. As per earlier posts I have to make do with micro-sized beef jerky packets.

    Dunno how you do it.

I used to eat it most days for lunch when I was at work, but I just can't eat rice more than once a day or every day of the week.

At home I'd usually make my own stuff or eat out at the weekend.

Rice - @ 5 days a week. Really just a substitute for potatoes.

Rice is just the carrier. It's the meat; chicken, pork, fish, beef, and the very large variety of sauces, spices, curries. Along with the large variety of noodles available. I would hazard a guess that I rarely eat the same meal in a months time.

I am very fortunate that I do like just about everything I've been offered - I even like deep fried grasshoppers, well, until my father-in-law saying they may have been killed with insecticide. That put me off them.

There is a lot to be said for the out-of-sight/out-of-mind adage. If I don't think about it, I don't miss it. Of course, reading this thread flies in the face of that logic.

Yeah, but potatoes actually taste nice! I love Thai food and binge when I'm over there, but even then, after a while, I need something new. There's definitely truth in what you say; being ensconced in a Thai village with Thai people keeps thoughts of a fat juicy steak far from your mind.

Similar to Chitty, a Sunday roast (beef and pork) with every trimming under the sun and extra gravy of course (Hi Dil!).

    Left, right, right, left . . .

    Fork left
    Knife right

It's better than so many seppos switching the fork hand to place the food in their mouth . . . why? Seriously. Why?

Nice looking veggies, what's the yellow thing at the bottom? Is that bread? Two separate heaps of 'taters or is the smaller one parsnip mash? Lurves me sum parsnips

When I lived in Bangkok 30+ years ago, you could drive into Nana Plaza and park there. In those days there used to be a fried grasshopper haeker who hung around the entrance. I remember him as a miserable sob. Some friends would buy the grasshoppers but not for me. I remember asking where he found all these grasshoppers.

About a decade later when I was in UK I remember friends telling me that there had been a shock discovery. Farmers were spraying the fields with DDT then collecting the dead grasshoppers and selling them. Others who were in Thailand then might remember the details. So your fil's concerns are based on history.

    Seen it soooo many times.

Knife in right hand, fork in left.
Cut appropriate piece of food and skewer with said fork
    Lay down knife and fork
Pick up fork with right hand and proceed to place food into mouth
Change fork hand from right to left
Pick up knife with right hand . . .
    . . .
. . . repeat as often as required.

Seriously, AO - why oh why??? Why switch hands? Let's ask our distinguished members:

socal - fukkin seppos, I told the left hand to fuck off because it grew up in suburbia, fukkin ghastly western ideal of eating. Fuckin boomers

YourDaddy - I said, fukkin, in old place Serbia fukkin we fukkin cut fukkin peoples' hands off, fukkin. Fukk

chico - I heve all tree of my left hands on ingnore - ah, the piece and quite while I cvnt my munthly incum of 259.937 usd/munth

JackOff - *hick* -the fuckin left hand wuz havein sex wit your wife and your muther mother *hick*

LatinKaren - I damaged my left hand while throwing pollit bowls at defenceless women while telling them they were stupid in public - it's Ant's fault

    lom - Thor willed it

bsnub - it's the Seattle way. Salmon with the left hand- in my Tesla!

Jeff - Foregoing the decrepit western ways to unbound the energy contained in memories of the future

Klondyke - GUANTANAMO BAY can be said to be the cause, but we don't name those who should be named. The Overton window of acceptable political discourse has been shrunk into such a narrow spectrum of debate that talking about even well-known and extensively documented facts involving the real nature of America’s government and media will get you laughingly dismissed as a conspiracy theorist, which is itself a symptom of tight narrative control by a ruling class which much prefers Americans thinking they live in a free democracy whose government they control with their votes. Strip away the phony two-handed sock puppet show of US electoral politics and look at how power actually moves in that country, and you just see one more tyrannical regime which propagandizes its citizens, brutally cracks down on protesters, deliberately keeps its populace impoverished so they don’t get powerful enough to change things, and attacks any nation which dares to disobey its dictates. EyeLuvPutin The article sources its jarringly propagandistic claims in multiple US government-funded narrative management operations like the Wilson Center and the National Endowment for Democracy-sponsored Freedom House, the extensively plutocrat-funded Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the United States Naval Academy.

Ant - I happen to have saved a post from November 3rd, 2012 - just by coincidence - that explains how and why

Shutree - back in the 70s, far as I can remember, there were no forks to be had . . . duuuuude

Aging One - Switch hands you say? Never happened. If it did happen then it didn't. Plus, how to jog with a fork AND knife in hand?!

    KW - Lol

deeks - TRUMP 2020/24/28/32. Only HE knows how to eat and you lib lefty slugs . . . haha, I'll laugh if you use the middle hand

cyrille - as with 'i' before 'e' except after 'c' the left hand remains in firm control of said piercing utensil. Note the 'i' before 'e' after the 'p'

SeekingAsylum - the self-serving right hand, also known as the Neo-Right-Hand BoJo fanatics will destroy Britain - Sterling- Baht 1-23 by Nov 4

Hallelujah - That's how we do it in Manchester-like. (Unfortunately I only know the Birmingham accent - my apologies)

TaxEvader - I had Japanese engineers pay me 30k/day to teach them how to scientifically transfer the fork from left to right . . . at McDonald's

Chitty - I only use Plastics forks made in the Middle East

bowie - Ah was sayin' to ma pa back in the day, a gosh-durning whoozie of a day back then, I'm using my 401k to buy left-handed forks

OhOh - Ameristani propaganda is saying Mao used dead Uighurs' bones to make forks - GUANTANAMO BAY July 24, 2020 / 6:36 AM / 9 days ago"Ecuador is monitoring a large fleet of fishing vessels, many of them Chinese, off the Galapagos Islands "
"fishing vessels appear each year near the Galapagos"“We are on alert, (conducting) surveillance, patrolling to avoid an incident such as what happened in 2017,” Defense Minister Oswaldo Jarrin told reporters.
The Ecuadorian Navy has identified some 260 vessels in the vicinity of the Galapagos Islands’ exclusive economic zone.
“There is a corridor that is international waters, that’s where the fleet is located,” said Jarrin, adding none had attempted to enter the exclusive economic zone. "

Harrybarracuda - The fucking chinky idiots don't know how to learn, these whackjobs think using a fork in their right hand will cause cognitive bias 5G cancerous growths

HughCow - Let's pray for divine guidance as oly HE knows why and which one.

    Darn, back to work!

Same here. My grandmother was Danish, and she taught me to always hold the fork with your left hand.

hmm... a deep, deep thought provoking issue - Proper Fork Etiquette.

Of course, I always figured it was determined by whether you were left-handed, right-handed or a confused ambidextrous.

TD's CIS will, of course, render their finding on this most important and perplexing issue.

    ^^^^^

We were blessed with forks, even in my youth.
Certainly to be held only in the left hand and only the back side up. Mother was not happy when any of us "shovelled peas."
