You're not a big fan of dishes that fall outside the realm of traditional western/American, Slick? Maybe a bit of Tex-Mex every now and then?

Nah I like all kinds of stuff but a plate of tomato & red onion as a meal would give me a fatal case of heartburn.

Something about tomato & acidic foods like that. I love me a bowl of tomato soup but jeezuz christ I suffer for hours after and there can be no lying down/sleeping.

Sure the food pictured tasted great but It would probably kill me.

Unfortunately, I'm the same with pizza. Love a good 'un, but that combined with red wine is a one way ticket to heartburn central in the middle of the night.

Fortunately I don't suffer the same myself but 'heartburn' is just another way of saying indigestion, right?

Heartburn is one of the many symptoms of indigestion, I believe, and is caused by acid reflux, which is awful. It was much worse for me back in the west with all the bread and pastry (pies!) you would consume.

I remember one night bolting upright in bed after a particularly heavy night on pizza, cider and wine. A recipe for disaster.

Slick, my Dad* also had an intolerance to the standard Tomato ... he complained that they were 'acidic'.

He loved growing veges and found that the yellow Tomato was just as tasty and much lower in acid.
Also the 'ole Apple Cider Vinegar does really help balance the gut as I have some of the issues my Dad had.

Teaspoon in a glass of warm water most mornings.

    Just a thought.

    * no implication, you're younger then me.

Unless there are other conditions involved, heartburn is easily and quickly remedied by taking an antacid...I keep a roll of Tums or Rolaids in the drawer of my bedside table for quick relief...and never worry about the overly chilied, sugared or carbohydrated...

Heartburn is directly related to either a stroke or an arrest of the heart. (or both simo)

Ok so a couple of things about this evenings offering: firstly no prep pics, this was actually made at the weekend and frozen; secondly, it does not photograph well! There's no way to stop it looking like a pile of puke so you'll need to take me on my word that it's good.

Comfort food. Just got a craving for a dish from home - salmon patties, mashed spuds, peas and a dill cream sauce. Couldn't find any frozen peas locally so I had to settle for canned.

    That actually looks pretty good!

With the exception of the peas though, they look terrible. Still needs must.

Did you make the patties? Wouldn't mind seeing the recipe if you have one?

Tinned peas are disgusting, nothing wrong with frozen ones though.

Peas are classic with this dish so I had to accept what was available.

I broiled two salmon steaks. Mashed them up a bit with a fork, half a minced small onion, chopped dill, a small tablespoon of mayo, seasoning, panko and one egg. Formed patties and fried them on medium heat in Canola oil. For the sauce made a roux with butter and flour, thinned with milk. Seasoned and more chopped dill.

Obviously, time to rethink the classic part under such conditions...those green balls look like ammunition...

If you put enough sauce and salt and pepper on them they are ok. Personally I don't like veg very much anyway. I like salads. This was a dish my mom made so out of memory of her I made it the way she made it.

The Brit owner of Oh My Cod, a now-defunct Khao San Road eatery, tried to interest me in mushy peas, offering me a cupful when I stopped by for an AF get-together: my only hope is that all the denizens of the restaurant's fish pond didn't die...
