    ST is that bread readilly available in Thailand ? or is it from a more localised shop ,, it really looks the biz especially on the inside where it looks to be cooked properly as opposed to some of the soggy stuff served up. Gonna have to invest in a decent breadmaker to bring with me for retirement time ,, I remember some of Terry,s loaves he made in one of them , looked delicious . BTW has that french stick got that awfull Thai sweet taste about it ?

    although I like to get bread and rolls at one of the local specialty bakeries, the Danish Bakery here in Ban Chang specifically, but the demand for rolls was unfortunately not enough for them to justify continue making and I did not have any of their "walnut or white" bread on hand so the bread n&d, is actually the French bread from the Tesco Lotus. 32 or 35 baht. It really isn't too bad and can be used for sub rolls, rolls for steak sandwiched or sausages, and I use this bread for when I make and eat "brochette". to me, it isn't really too sweet although I still prefer the specialty bakery shop bread..... anyway make sure your bread maker has the right electric specs....

    Thanks for the tip mate ,, all our other UK stuff seems to work ok via the plug convertor . I think mabe the USA elec equip may be incompatable ? .

    Anyway back to the nosh , and tonights dinner was a winner .



    Tonight we have steamed rice ,,, sirloin steak , cut in thin strips marianaded in soy sauce + cooked in creamy coconut milk ,,, a northern Thai fish stock based vegetable soup including some chestnut mushrooms,, accompanied with 4 salt duck eggs , covered in fresh chilli + french bean dressing .

    Thai mango + icecream to end it all

    Saturday, 17 Sep 2011: Tonight’s dinner prepared by the lovely spouse is one of my all time favorites. She calls the dish “PASTA KEY MOW”. When asked what that name might be when translated, she said “drunken pasta”. Tonight it was Chicken Pasta Key Mow. Whatever, it is tasty and I made the garlic toast to go along with the pasta.




    Ingredients and the way the dish was made:
    pasta noodles
    minced chicken, pork or beef
    choice if vegetables optional (we used mini ears of corn, sugar peas, broccoli & mushrooms)
    Hot Basil Stir Fry Sauce, readily available in any Thai grocery store.




    prepare pasta noodles.
    in a skillet, fry up some minced chicken, pork or beef (we used chicken).
    (optional) steam some vegetables (we used mini ears of corn, sugar peas, broccoli & mushrooms.
    add cooked noodles to meat in the skillet.
    add Hot Basil Stir Fry Sauce to taste and desired texture to meat and noodles in skillet. the wifey used three or four packets for approx 16 oz of noodles,
    add cooked vegetables.
    mix and heat in skillet for 2 min. serve.

    For the Garlic toast I use my home made garlic butter.
    one stick of unsalted butter.
    4 or 5 cloves of garlic finely chopped.
    mix the finely chopped garlic well with softened butter.
    add a little garlic salt and mix some more.
    form the garlic butter mix back into original stick shape.
    put in refrigerator to use when needed.

    slice Italian or French bread.
    spread on garlic butter.
    lightly toast in toaster oven or toast bread and spread garlic butter on warm toast or put spread garlic butter on bread and place on sheet pan and heat in oven.
    serve.

    ^^ we have pad kee mao very regularly as its on the top of my daughters list of favorites.
    My 'ol lady won't use any packets of anything tho', must admit for once I agree with her.
    I tried the packet i chef a couple of weeks ago, must admit I thought it was a bit gross.

    ^ Re Aust bananas, agree with you on that, Aust bananas taste bland and cardboard like compared with the local variety.

    no argument that home made to taste sauces are better than packets but "gross" I feel is a little too strong of a term for the i-chef packet hot basil stir fry sauce. It works for me in a pinch and in a hurry

    Here is tonights delicious meal cooked by my dear little wifey ,,,, my favourite tonight massaman gai + UK somtum made with swede + carrot + some finely chopped chicken and stir fry veg , delicious

    ^ Too right Nat ,,,,,,,you said you like it hot well your coming to the right place ,, my lips were numb lastnight after that somtum we got the chillis from a diff supplier .

    Anyway how about tonights offering served up by my beloved ,, she cooked a beef stew with root veg and made the gravy/sauce from her memory bank + mash pots + sweetcorn +peas ,,,,,,, I have to be honest I was,nt looking forward to this as I love me Thai grub now ,,,,,BUT my God this did not dissapoint ,,,,infact I have saved the leftover sauce / gravy and will put that over some mash tommorow night now . She was so worried she was gonna cock this up but I can honestly say its the best stew I,ve ever eaten .

    Actually Nat its very warm here now believe it or not ,,,,,,, 23 deg in me lorry com today showing outside temp and we have been told tonight on the weather forcast that an Indian summer is on the cards ,, so you should be lucky

    No I tell it like it is ,if its crap I would soon say ,,,,, but in 3 years of being married we aint had that prob ( so far ) to be honest she is a bloody good little cook ,, hopefully Nat and her hubby will be coming round soon for some grub so she will be able to post her honest evaluation of it

    Todays delicious meal ,, Sunday dinner but with a difference in the west chicken noodle , this meal has the authentic Thai seasoning pack last time I was back home in Ban Dung bought 24 packs [at] 12bht a pack in the market to bring over with us ,, got 3 packs left now

    Apart from cakes I usually do all the cooking at the weekend , I also grow most of the veg we cook aswell ,, just harvested some rather sweet mini sweetcorn today + got in the last of the beetroot from the garden and cooked it

    Ah, you like rubbing the butter into the flour to make the crumb, enough said.

    My last efforts at growing corn, seedlings, watering, hoeing, tying up and covering with nets for protection ended with a flock of pigeons eating the nearly ripe corns.

    I buy my veg now.

    What about these "salt duck eggs", what are they?

    although it sounds inviting and to my taste, the store has not had chocolate / chocolate chip ice cream recently and the chocolate sauce or chocolate chips are something that my mature figure could probably do without. LOL. Great suggestion though.
