No, those ingredients are too expensive in Thailand these days.

I'd be going with the ground meat option - one that has featured heavily here lately.

Or just heading to 'Duke's' restaurant.

I finally cracked yesterday... I just can't catch a decent bladdy pla nin so I took my cod fillet out of the freezer.

Korat Chef... making life in Isaan bearable - that should be their motto.

And transformed it into this... finally a chance to open a tin of mushy peas as well.

The wife bought frozen potato wedges instead of oven chips at Makro last week, but apart from that, this meal was pretty well perfect.

You can't beat a bit of cod.

If in Bangkok there is a Roti Mataba cafe on Pra A Thit opp the white Fort, about 3 seats on the narrow pavement , a dozen inside or the very hot upper room, if finger food take over the road to eat in the park. Best Roti this side of Malaysia.
They do have a few other curries and an ENGRISH ISH menu very cheap for the quality c 40 Roti 70-120 for a plate last time I visited

    That does look tasty, Mendip.

They have some of those Korat Chef products in CM, but not frozen cod as far as I know.

    Dinner-20241017_190930-jpg

Washed down with a double expresso..

Not the cheapest of meals out, in fact my most expensive.

I paid just under £200 for 6 people.

That is a cheap night out for six people, especially if the vino is flowing, at least here in Seattle it is.

$60 aust gets you 4 pretty chunky pieces of Hake and your choice of 4 dim sims or 4 pineapple rings or 4 crab sticks plus a pretty decent serve of chips. The kids are usually stilDinner-20241018_174013-jpgl eating chips next day. Of course you can pay to upgrade the fish to snapper/ cobbler or whatever he's got but nothing wrong with battered hake. No curry sauce today unfortunately

Just googled the pound to $ Aussie $ rate and 200 quids $388 aust $ and $260 usd. I don't eat out all that much here so it sometimes surprises me how much food in a resto costs

The San Francisco Bay Area is now just too expensive. Since I was last there 4 years ago food prices have sky rocketed. I paid $200 for just an average breakfast for 6. Blew my mind as I was expected and did leave another $40 for the tip.

Everything has doubled since Covid apart from incomes.

That's a good price for 6 Joe. If I did a 6 top here at a descent middle of the road restaurant with a few bevvys I'd probably have to shell out $500 + an expected 15 to 20% gratuity.

My wife and I went to a nice Sushi/Sashimi restaurant a few days back for lunch and it was near $100 with tip and no alcohol.

While I enjoy visiting here, the cash burn is crazy. It's why I grill and cook at my Pops house.

I nearly lost my drink reading this and seeing the photo, thinking chitty had upped his game.

I'd say the price was a bit heavy for just a pasta dish.

The first time 2 years ago it was from a shop cause it came in a cardboard box.

This time I actually did not enquire and I only saw it in the bowl but I suspect it may have been from the same shop. It was more yummy this time. It must be growing on me.
