There's some irony here, researching the origin of baked beans, it appears to be very much an American theme, and particularly with sausages. Who hasn't seen a Western movie, where at least one of the characters says "get off your horse and eat your beans".

I agree... well crafted baked bean are a wonderful experience....but, in my opinion, dumping a can of beans on a plate is simply wrong....but who am I to judge?

As one gets older, we do realize our childhood heroes ain't perfect. I know for many Brits, you still remember the days of Maggie Thatcher, but I guarantee she didn't eat Heinz bean dumped out of a can while leading the coal miners to freedom.

Honestly Topper, we all judge posters meal. Many are positive comments, some not. That crao Armstrong posted was just that, crap and to hear it's British classic is funny. I tend to agree with Snubs, looks like homeless shelter food. Years back in the states, canned beans became termed poverty food. They were cheap and sold at many budget outlet type stores. They are also one of few you can still find produced in huge cans, again for use at shelters, camps and prisons.

The American bean experience is rather regional. In the West, beans usually meant Chili! I never met my American grandfather (born in California in 1885), but I was told that he could make a bowl of chili that could set your mouth on fire.

That is only eaten in the south, it is a very regional food and I personally can not stand grits. Misskit on the other hand is a fan though. :)

I would not disagree, but I think as a kid I grew up eating ham and beans, but it was nothing like canned beans at all. My grandfather would make it with the leftover Easter ham.

All my Bean experiences are that of the Chili style. Usually thick and Zesty. Some spicy enough to burn nose hairs, others more of a mild dish served with a nice steak type dinner and a small salad. Never had those runny slop beans. Back as kid my mom and other elders never cooked meals from cans except Tuna for sammys. Pretty much all made from scratch.

But as Topper said, eat what you like but be advised you might get a few comments. :)

It's really just comfort food.

Buttered thick cut toast topped with beans, melted cheddar cheese and brown sauce.

Lovely once in a while, but you aint gonna go out of your way for it.
