    Wetherspoons yet again.

Would it be fair to say presentation is not of the utmost importance with Egyptian food, hal?

Did you know that they do hotel rooms now? You could book a room and eat nothing but 2 for a tenner deals for the whole weekend while in a permanent alcoholic stupor!

Spent 2 months there around 20 years ago. Shark restaurant was in around that location, and The Lighthouse bar on the left headland. Nice trek down to the Blue Hole, and we slept up on the highest peak on those mountains behind a few times, firewood, food and bags of weed, zero light pollution and 360 degree of clear desert night sky as on the highest peak.

    Is Mohammed still there?

Yes, mate. There is definitely a Mohammed there and there also seem to be even more hippies than ever now. It's still a wonderful place though.

I came home after my last work trip for many reasons... to see if Anna was settling in to her new home OK and making friends with the pack, to make sure my lovely daughter was still working hard at school and not spending 6 hours a day on her screens, and of course to see my beautiful fifteen and a half year old Dan.

Dan doesn't really know what's going on any more and every time I leave for a work trip I worry I won't see her again.

But tonight, after the wife had 'retired' from another busy day, Dan was still compos mentis enough to sneak in for a few morsels of food. Maya hung on Dan's shirt tails.

But the main reason I returned home of course was to raise the sorry standard of the Dinner thread.

Tonight it was re-fried pork and apple sausages, re-baked cheesy potatoes, with a medley of veg.

You won't see this in any Korat restaurants.

    And money... shot...

And a Songkran dessert to boot!

It gives me great pleasure to state that representatives (me) from the NGB (Northern Gravy Board) have given both of those plates a pass despite some concern about the one on the right.

Regarding the sausages, were there funeral rites before the cremation?

If the NGB are satisfied, I can rest easy.

Senior members of the NGB had already noted the plate on the right was suffering from PDE (Pea Dam Effect), preventing sufficient gravy inundation of the lower food hinterland.

And I came home for this?

I'm not sure those plates can be described as raising the state of anything.

More suitable for the drunk food thread...

It's more like drunk camping food where someone wasn't watching the dogs on the grill and they tried to hide it amongst other food.

They do look a bit African.

If one of those is for a 10-11 yr old girl, do you not care about obesity etc?

You are right about the camping food. After the entire plate fell in the fire and got incinerated and covered in fire ash, then wiped off and put on a plate.

Welcome home Mendy! Commence the train wrecks...

Two snags, a plate of veggies and a pudding? I doubt it. I don’t think you know what or how a 10 year old girl eats.

Take the piss out of his cooking, or his manky feet, or his cheap drinking habits but it’s a bit of a cvnt act to suggest he is driving his daughter to obesity.

I would have to agree with you, doc. His daughter is the center of his universe, pretty clear by his long posting history here.

Welcome back Mendy. What are you gonna over cook today then drop in the dirt and hide with peas and some liquid you call gravy?

I am going to board the big bird to California in an hour or so. Will be fasting on the flight. However a day or so from now Louisiana hot links will be hitting the grill. I need to stop and pick up a Bottle of WhistlePig Rye as well.

Are you the Penne Bol Wizard?

Ever since I was a young boy
    I've cooked Spaghetti Bol
    From Soho down to Brighton
I must have fed 'em all
But I ain't seen nothing like him
    In any food court hall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure cooks a mean penne bol.

    He stands like a statue
    Becomes part of the machine
    Feeling all the ingredients
    Always keeps them clean
    He cooks by intuition
He's up there with them all
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure cooks a mean penne bol.

    He's a penne bol wizard
There has got to be a twist
    A penne bol wizard's
    He adds a little jizz

How do you think he does it? I don't know
    What makes him so good?

    Ain't got no distractions
Can't hear no buzzers and bells
    Don't see no lights a-flashin'
    Cooks by sense of smell
    Always gets a review
    5 stars from them all
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure cooks a mean penne bol.

    I thought I was
    The bolognese king
    But I just handed
My penne bol crown to him.

    Even on my favorite table
    He can beat my best
    His disciples lead him in
And he just does the rest
    He's got crazy chopping fingers
    Never seen him fall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure cooks a mean penne bol.

    Lang may yer lum reek...

Must admit, rarely buy spaghetti, opting more for store bought penne or home made tagliatelle.

Lamp chops. I didn't cook them, obviously.
