It is. There are a few temples around there or you could stop on your way to an amazing waterfall Tri Treung Waterfall at Chaloemrattanakosin National Park.

I've thought that I've pretty much got the Isaan fish an' chips nailed, so last night with only having a couple of small pla nin fillets for tea I thought I'd supplement the fish with some scampi.

    I've never made scampi before.

It wasn't the same like I've seen in pubs.

As it looked so shite I thought I'd liven up the meal a bit with a battered sausage.

And the money shot... surf and turf. It was surprisingly edible.

I hate to say this, Mendy because I like you, and you are a good soul. But I hope that outside of that small island you grew up on, you realize that that looks terrible to the rest of us.

If you put in front of me I would eat it to be polite but....

^ Tbh Snubs, I would expect nothing less. This wasn't my finest meal and the dogs did well last night.

There ain't many on my small island who would have eaten that shite and I wouldn't blame them, but a skinful of whisky and a half decent sausage saved the day!

To be fair, you post up some epic food pics and I would nosh most of what you cook (aside from the beans), but that was far from your finest efforts.

    If you say so!
Not really up to your usual high standards. On the plus side, 2022 will have to be better. Except for the Mont Clair. I have a glass beside me and I can testify that it never gets better.
Best wishes to you and your family for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. And the dogs, except for the prosperous bit, because they are lucky enough not to worry about that.

^^ And best wishes to you also Shutree... may all your photos include a visible butterfly or bird!

I think you're a bit hard on Mont Clair... my general philosophy in Thailand is to have zero expectations and then you'll never be disappointed... although I am, a lot.

^ And Mike, my dogs are surprisingly non-committal about Brexit although I don't think they really appreciate the full ramifications of the Northern Ireland issue. I had considered calling our next inmate 'Boris' but we haven't found a dog stupid enough yet.

But anyway, the last lunch of the year... wrong thread I know but it's been a long day...

I cooked up a batch of sausage rolls with my left over pastry...

And I know... I can barely believe meself that I'm posting this shite on New Year's Eve. What a sad state to be in.

    Yum!

^ You know what they say dogs take after their owners. Those rolls look great with the beans, you need malt vinegar to complement the greasy stuff

The idea that food you are cooking at home needs to be presented in a satisfactory way is laughable. Mash that shit up.

Well tossed up a big feast for New Years with my BIL and SIL in town

First was hand rubbing my fat Ribeye.

Our 6 lobsters arrived in morning so all was on plan.

Prepped up the shrooms, corn and taters

Few of the Ribeye and food Q'ing

Wife and Sis in law cooked the 6 lobsters in the oven until almost done then I tossed them all on the Q for about 10 mins.

My family doesn't drink alcohol so I was enjoying an outstanding Farmstock Rye Whiskey. I actually enjoyed it all day as I cooked along with a few IPA's.

Cheers all and Happy New Year.

Nice. Do you mind me asking where you got the spiny lobster and how much?

    I hope that's not a euphemism...

My last meal of the year was surprisingly enough some typical British winter food.

    Steak and kidney pie!

    With a duo of peas.

And will be having exactly the same today!

A fine meal too, i admire your restraint on the mash. Question where do you get the Kidneys and have they had the membrane removed?

^ I'm determined not to put back on all the weight I lost while at work last Autumn... well at least not too quickly anyway.

I use pig kidneys which you can get just about anywhere. I usually pick up a few at Makro while also getting the beef shoulder for the pie. I'm not sure about a membrane but trim them myself and then fry up the gristle from the middle for the dogs (they won't touch raw kidney).

I think that lamb or beef kidney would probably be better but not so available... lamb kidney at least would definitely be a challenge.

I've noticed your careful carb balancing act

I take it the beef shoulder is local, not tough?

    Garden peas and mushy peas?

I think it's time for an intervention. A TD intervention. Friends dont let friends get carried away on peas.

^^^ MM, it's local beef but no problem and not at all tough if slow cooked. I'd put my steak and kidney pie up against anyone's!

^^ I wouldn't normally be so decadent as to have two types of pea in one meal but it's my daughter... she's gone mushy pea mad, and it is Christmas after all. My mother's a northerner and it seems the mushy pea gene runs strong. They say these things can skip a generation... I actually prefer the common or garden pea.

Stumpy, I'd also like to know how much those lobsters cost, if you don't mind me asking.

My wife cooked up a slab of tuna....and nailed it.

Not bad, but a touch over what I like a tuna steak. But what do I know, I prefer good tuna raw as either sashimi or sushi.
