^ Cheers ST , well you never know mate , its still an open ended situation , it will be one side or the other of the gulf . I have to say price wise you seem to get more for your money in Ban Chang than Cha am at the mo
Inspired by the great gourmet Chairman Mao I give you my ( very poor ) effort at his potato gratin ,, tasted better than it looked ,, served with fresh spinach / courgette / runner beans grown in my garden . I cooked some lovely spare rib pork ( very tender ) with some good crackling on it + some home made apple + lemon sauce.
However all was not lost as I made a toffee apple + sultana sponge pudding for afters .when I got this out the oven I made some toffee/caramel sauce in the frypan with some butter + brown sugar ,, poked lots of holes in the sponge and tipped it into the top to allow the toffee/caramel to infuse into the body of the sponge.
Served up with some double cream ,, mmm get in ! BTW thats an illusion , that green bowl is the size of a sink

I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
as always, looking tasty n&j.
looks great. I had the best western meal of my life up here in Chaing Mai last night. Did not cook it but a Caesar salad, followed by a pepperoni pizza, a big rack of ribs with the trimming, and a double brownie delight for desert. Shared by all. The Dukes Chaing Mai. All the family loved it. No pix as having camera problems.
That looks nasty, globules of what?
No mate not nasty at all ,, thats chicken drumsticks ,, you know I am sure the Thais like their meat on the bone
Jeez! But that all looks good, N&J. Especially the dessert. Had a Jewish mate could make a fantastic Viennese bread n butter pudding. To die for (if you ate it regularly, you probably would have). Any one got a recipe for that sort of thing on the forum?
Also, electric frypans. Can they be got over here? The kind that you can do a baked dinner in. Beats paying 5K or more for these pissy electric ovens.
I really fancied a bit of the old Thai street food tonight so asked the missus to knock me up a Khao man gai using up some of yesterdays left over chicken ,, she didn't disappoint + she made 2 different spicy sauces to tip over it .
You've a right good'n there Nigel, the meal and the missus.
I'm not really a big fan of Khao Man Gai, mostly because I've only rarely tried it. But I generally like everything that is made to make it so possibly I'll try it again real soon. I still like the ground pork with basil on rice as my old stand by.
Good cooking n&j.

Sure have mate ,, she even went to the trouble to cook the rice in home made chicken stock and shaped my rice in the bowl on the plate ,, very authentic I thought.Originally Posted by OhOh
I wouldn't want to eat this regularly ST but I just yearned for a bit of the old style street food ,, it certainly hit the spot.
BTW just as a little point of info in the food thread ,, I made a blackcurrant cheesecake over the weekend , both Jan and her Thai friend here ate some and both had allergic skin reactions , mabe more than a coincidence , its not nice made them red and itch a lot ,,,,, rather upset me ,, er ,, so I had to polish the rest off myself .
Ah every cloud etc
A little too much detail methinksOriginally Posted by nigelandjan
