Sure it was Joe. That just sounds so much like a meal you would pick up in any village in Quintana Roo

Sushi tonight. The place is still closed for dining in, even though most places have reopened. The old Japanese owner and sushi chef says he can not find staff. He writes a message on every takeout order in Japanese calligraphy...

And the lasagna? As close as perfection as one could get in Naples?

I cannot remember how long it is since I had sushi. There is a seller at the food court in the local Tesco-now-Lotus's. There is something about the greens and the pinks that makes me never want to try it.

I have never seen chilli cooked that way. However, much to my surprise it seems that is how betty Crocker does her "Red beans and rice chilli" (albeit that she serves it with advocado rather than chips!).

No picture on the website sadly:

    That does look good.
Here in Khon Kaen the Sushi is at best terrible, at least the sushi I have tried so far,
    drenched in weird mayonnaise sauces.

Years ago I tried a japanese place in KK (on a walk in). dragging my memory, but it would be in one of the main food areas (sorry a good few years ago).

But I can still vaguely remember it, as the place was fantastic. They had premium fatty tuna. Seem to recall that it was about 3,000 baht for two slices. Yeah, a splurge. But very worth it.

Not sure about the thing at the top of the pic, but the salmon, tuna and butterfish (?) looks simply excellent . . . and the unagi looks good.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week: a falafel sandwich and a fried aubergine sandwich (with a mint tea on the side). Pickled chilies standard. Isright.

Aye, these are some of the best I've had and they're dirt cheap too. I love falafel; it's one of the few things I'd ever occasionally order over shawarma, kofta etc.

The only things I miss are pickles and olives. I do love falafel too.

Guess you must really like Cairo to be back there.

Egyptians seem like good peeps on the whole.

I always try to get to Soi 3 every now and then when I'm in Bangkok for a bit of the grub from round these parts.

Regarding Cairo, it's not an easy city, but I just felt that I didn't see enough of Egypt last time I was here. Plus, yeah, Egyptians in general are the friendliest people I've ever met. The odd nobhead here and there, but we have many more of those at home, so I can deal with the odd wanker every now and then.

He calls it the Aztec roll. Tempura roll with BBQ eel, fresh snow crab mix, avocado, cream cheese topped with spicy teriyaki aioli sauce and garnished with pico de gallo. Spicy.

The pic didn't do it justice, but I was too lazy to put it on a plate.

Only good eh? If you noticed, I am a bit of an eel lover as it is in the roll too.

I should note that I had a cup of miso as well.

Sushi is one of those things I've just never been able to get into. I wish I could, but I just don't get it.

I can't work out whether I'm snacking or supposedly eating a meal and the flavours just feel a bit meh to me.

Unless you are a human garbage disposal like some on here (Dilly ), you would be more than full with what was in that pic.

It looks great too. It really does (the eel especially).

That wasabi looks like it has a kick and a half too.

If you have not done a lot of sushi eating, it helps to go with someone who is a bit of a sushi snob. There is a lot of substandard sushi out there. I try to go to a place that is owned by a native born or trained Japanese sushi chef. Thankfully, there are many of them in Seattle that have come over from Japan to work and open restaurants. We also have one of the best fisheries in the world here, and that is part of what attracts them to come here.

I though I posted this but apparently not. Perhaps I posted on some other thread by mistake, or forgot to press "Post" LOL
would not be the first time.
So I am in heaven ,
I just discovered Vila Market, located in Udon Thani about two hrs drive from me.
I have not been there yet, Will go this weekend, but according to their website they have many of the things I was looking for. They also have real Oscar Myer hotdogs and a good deli selection.
    Wish me luck

Japanese is one of my favourite foods. Cant get enough of it unfortunately it's expensive in oz so reserved for special occasions .
