English Noodles - Easy Rice Pudding.

First of all get some left over cooked rice and throw it in a pot.

Chuck in some milk and then give it a stir, chuck it on a high heat and bring to the boil and then simmer for about 10 mins.

Throw in a couple of spoonfulls of sugar and if you like a little vannilla, I never bother with the vannilla though. Give it a good stir and simmer for another 5 mins.

Chuck in an egg and quickly stir it in, at this point you can add a little more milk also if you like, keep it on the heat for another couple of mins and then take it off.

You can now enjoy eating it, though I always eat it cold, so in to the fridge it goes for a couple of hours and then served with cold milk and a little grated ginger on top.

    Luuuurrrrrvly

Might be nice with a little coconut milk in it at the start ...... just a thought. I used to get a lot of this when I was a kid but I don't think there was an egg in it and it always had a ' skin ' on top. Still, thanks for the idea.....will start experiment No 1 manana.

Hmmm. saying manana makes me think a banana might work too ...... or am I straying from the noble path ?

It thickens the mixture to a nice consitancy.

Yep, I love it with skin on also, I think you have to cook it in the oven to get the skin.

Brilliant. Do you reckon you could just do the whole thing in the rice cooker?

Does it taste the same as the stuff out of the tin that everyone used to eat as a kid?

Well, I gave it a go this morning :

Scene of experiment. Our compact open plan kitchen.

    Assembled ingrediants

    The finished result.

Sadly, experiment number one was not a success for the following reasons :

    1) Not enough sugar. I always do this. They say too much sugar is not good for you but they don't tell you that in a pudding you might as well throw caution to the wind ..... I needed about 3 times as much sugar .

    2) Could have done with more milk so that I would have developed a skin.

    3) I put the sliced bananas at the bottom of the dish. They should have been mixed in with the pud for more flavour.

Anyway, it turned out edible but bland. I tried it out on the girlfriend after pinning her to the floor and forcing her mouth open. Even after all this time she still regards my culinary experiments as a possible attempt on her life with a view to inheriting the house and moving a new younger woman in. She lives yet and concurred with the need for more sugar.

Ah well, next time will be better and its only using up leftovers so nothing wasted. In fact, I've saved a few baht on todays dog food ....... if he shows up.

My next attempt will remedy the above faults.

Yeah sorry, I fucked up today as well. I went to Tesco and bought the eggs, sugar, vanilla and flour and then I got home and we've only got Pilau rice. It's not gonna work with yellow rice. I'll get my wife to pick some up on the way home from work and try tonight.

Whats that got to do with rice pudding!

I've never tried it with raisins, but i did a quick google to make sure I wouldn't forget anything this morning and it suggested raisins. (I know i forgot the rice) Then when in tesco they had a dried fruit stand and they had dried stawberrys. I might give them a try.
