    Cheesecake question

I fancy making a cheesecake, but the recipes all seem to want sour cream. I took a trip to Lotus and Big C, and all they seem to have is whipping cream. Where can I buy sour cream, or can I make my own.
Also, does anyone have a good cheesecake recipe?

One doesn't nessecarily need sour cream to create a decent cheesecake. For everyone that makes cheesecake, there's a different cheese cake. One could easily substitute non-desript soft cheeses for the purpose. Or you could easily just go the singular cream cheese route.

Just add some lime juice to the whipping cream its not ideal but will give some acidity to the cream, try villa mart.

I've also added manao juice to unsweetened yoghurt to get a pseudo-sour cream, but OK with cream, too. I have a good recipe from my Québécoisuncle...let me check...

Here's a no-bake cheesecake recipe without sour cream:

    No Bake Cheesecake

    Ingredients:
    1 graham cracker crust
3 packages softened Philadelphia Cream Cheese
    1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
    1/8 cup brown sugar
    3/4 cup white sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 cup powdered sugar

    Directions:
    1. Blend the cream cheese, whipping cream, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla and powdered sugar thoroughly with an electric mixer.
    2. Spoon into graham cracker crust. Chill for 4-6 hours before serving.
    Eat more Cheezy Poofs!

Not sure where your located but Foodland and Carrefour (both on Srinakarin) have sour cream. Look next to the cottage cheese.

Considering it's not a 'dairy' consuming society. Smarts folks.

Tesco/Big C should have sour cream near the yoghurt (in a yoghurt-sized container).

In Bangkok and Pattaya sour cream is available at Foodland, Villa and, depending upon the branch and the number of farang customers it has, Big C, Lotus and Carrefour. I use a lot of the stuff.

They have it at Makro in Roiet so reckon Makro in Bangkok is bound to have it.

There is another brand, can't remember the name, with brown writing on the container. It's much better than Foremost. I object to the container more than
the stuff itself, no way to reseal the container once its opened. Packaging here is
    one of my big gripes.

My wife made me a cheesecake the other day. She'd used some sort of actual cheese biscuts to make the base.

My wife makes a triple chocolate cheesecake and uses Oreo cookies for the base- it's pretty awesome.

Disagree, use good quality digestive biscuits (such as McVitie), crumble up until very fine, and add melted butter. Put into the baking tin and press flat to the bottom, then chill in the fridge for an hour or so. I've tried the ready made crust you mention, and I find it fairly bland.

In the states I have never saw anything called a digestive biscuit, what the fuck ever one is, I take it to be some kind of cookie,, but we do this with Graham crackers, run em in a blender and use butter.
But I would think that a blander crust would not impart so much of a different flavor to your basic cheesecake flavor.
Of coarse unless it was a choc with Oreo crust which does sound interesting.
Living here and cooking you do learn to use some different things to come up with good food.

Yes, biscuit = cookie (at least if you're from the UK). You will find them in any of the major supermarkets here in Thailand (Tesco, Tops, Village Market etc). Most popular brand is McVitie, though Crawfords are also available, but more expensive.
