    Fish Pie Surprise

Chop up your spuds and carrots

    Fish Pie Surprise-20230514_211842-jpg

Defrost 1 kg of barramundi fillets

    Fish Pie Surprise-20230514_212416-jpg

Whip up 2 litres of white sauce

    Fish Pie Surprise-20230514_213600-jpg

Chop the fish into the sauce with some peas

Add salt pepper, parsley, rosemary and thyme

The surprise is that there is no actual pie. It is just 3 litres of pie filling.

You can take a handful of taties and a handful of carrots and ladle on a couple of ladles of fish pie supreme and that gives you a top meal every day for a week

I think there are two further surprises; firstly that you don't get fed up with it after 3 days, second that you don't get food poisoning after 6 days

That is a point worth pondering indeed Mike

My curry batches routinely last 2 weeks in the fridge with no detectable spoilage levels to my schnozzle

However the curry is always chicken and Barramundi could be a different kettle of fish

I hated fish pie as a kid, now I know why. Long time since I've seen such unappetizing carrots too.

    That's a fail looper...

Tough crowd for the debut of my Fish Pie Surprise

I might have to take this cullinary wonder back to the drawing board although I thought I did well to pull off this improvisation for what to do with Senorita's fish-deposit after spending less than 3 minutes googling 'fish pie' to come up with how to create the classic pie filling.

I have got 7 more days of it and I now feel I am on the clock after Mike's timely warning

My first challenge was to figure a microwave strategy for a plate of FPS with potatoes and carrots.

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230515_214132-jpg

The tub cover to retain moisture was counter-productive and the better strategy wass to spread it out flat to give maximum angle of incidence to the flooding microwaves

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230515_235727-jpg

I am going to rebrand it as Fish Slop rather than Fish Pie Surprise as I feel that is a more accurate moniker

I am not kidding when I tell you that what it lacks in photogenicity it more than make up for in balls-out bodaciousness. It is fooking ultra-yum and I will defo be making this again to the same specification. It is blokishly easy too which puts it quids in.

So should the thread be renamed 'Fish slop no surprise'?

Next time you make FSNS I would recommend tossing the carrots in butter and black pepper... that can transform any meal. And add more peas, of course.

Just placing things separately on the plate would make it look less 'digested', too.

The fish looks good - I'd just season and whack it in a fry pan (can call it medium-rare fillet steak surprise)

It's dinner at home. What's the big deal about playing it up so it's beautiful. Get some joy in your life and mush it all together while watching some crap on the Tele.

I am sort of with Armstrong on this one philosophically, but if one is to parade one's food on the DOOR then I can also see the sense in paying attention to the cosmetics

With that in mind I took a bit more care with this evenings plate preparation arranging alternating spud-piece with carrot slice

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230516_213649-jpg

Mendy is my carrot point-man and I sprinkled some parsley and pepper on the veggies

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230516_213852-jpg

    Et Viola.

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230516_225930-jpg

I think I will sort out an olive oil spray gun to give the carrots and spuds a little oily glaze a-la-mendo which I think will further improve oat cuisine credentials

That Dulce-de-leche caramel trifle took me 10 days to knock over but it is nothing compared to this marathon 1.8kg chocolate cake I posted up in the pudding thread

    Fish Pie Surprise-img_20230516_234745-jpg

This is day 12 and I am only a little over half way through it. It is spankingly good topped with salted caramel ice-cream

It is certainly not as aesthetically challenged as my FPS

Not after seeing Simon43s seaside photos. Although I think that was Blackpool so maybe a tad harsh on the Scarbronians.
