    Maybe a Melbourne thing, certainly how we used to say it in the part of inner Melbourne where i was from. I dont know where you are from but unless your thesis was on slang maybe you need to be a little less dogmatic, there are always variations, hence the great potato cake debate.
    Tunnel vision shows a complete lack of imagination or lateral thinking and we already have Cyrille fulfilling that role.

    We call them potato scallops here in Sth aussie too. Why- because they are scalloped.

    There are several differences in (not just) food terms between the states. Every state calls it's beer measures something different!

    What we call mulloway, when battered and fried is called butterfish. It's pretty ubiquitous here. In the eastern states they call it jewfish, or dhufish (PC). In WA, the dhufish is an entirely different species.
