Cyrille decided to take his Grammar Nazi dig at Topper back and change his post.

But just for the record, Dirk has managed to reside in Thailand longer than most.

The word sustenance on here conjures up loads of memories of Lulu and Scottish dining establishments eerily enough

I cannot remember ever eating Turkey.

Is it better than roast chicken?

Yes. Of course. But it can also be worse if not cooked correctly.

Except it’s more expensive, so it’s not a ‘poor relation’.

And, obviously your opinion on food and cooking is suspect.

Here in the heart of Issan, surrounded by Thais , anything that does not contain stinky stuff is lost on them.
I Usually cook for myself, my wife always politely says that what I cook is good, but the truth is revealed in the fact that she does not eat very much of it.
So,, like Mendip a roasted large chicken , with some baked lemon potatoes . If I could find one, perhaps a spiral ham would be nice.
Any ideas where I can order one?
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

    Apparently the British shop.

Virginia Ham Whole - 430 THB/kg (approx 2-3 kg) at BritiShop, Thailand

What made me laugh, a Virginia Ham in the UK. Is there a Virginia there?

As usual at Christmas I will cook for the extended family and perhaps the odd guest. Roast pork with good crackling and lots of veg - roast & mashed potatoes, carrots, cabbage, brussel sprouts, parsnips, if I can get them and peas.

Maybe Wilshire ham is too expensive? I also enjoyed an invite to Boxing Day cold cuts with massive dressed Salmon as the centerpiece. As is customary, invitees would bring along hams and other cooked meats, because the host was a Brit Innkeeper who would not expect any payment. (My contribution was a very large Aussie made Pork pie).

^ I have been warned Turkey is not as tasty as chicken and is usually tough unless it is cooked perfectly.

I hate everything about Christmas including Santa Claus and the commercial activities and it seems Turkey as well if it is as bad as what people say.

Give me some good ham, a well cooked chicken, some fresh seafood and a decent trifle and I'm set like a jelly.

    Suspect?!??!?!?

That's a bit like saying Osama Bin Laden had "reservations" about the USA, isn't it?
