    Yea or Nay?

Spicing things up before the big game on Saturday:

French journalist calls British fish-finger croissant a ‘monstrosity’!
I don't like fishfingers, but I do like croissants. However, the combination of both with cheese and tartar sauce is a definite

Someone must have been reading the drunk food thread when they created this.

I see on their webpage they advertise "authentic french recipes."

Bloody cheese eating surrender monkeys. Always getting their knickers in a twist about something.

I have to admit. it's the first I herd of them. So I looked at the link shutree provided and it looks to me like a fish sandwich.
I Don't see the what the controversy is or the desire for them.
The croissants dont look to me to be made any different , they look to be simple butter croissants split in the middle, and made into a fish sandwich.
I make egg and ham , or bacon sandwich with croissants all the time.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

They say the same about maccas- but the Gallics are one of the biggest consumers per head anywhere. I would prefer a fish finger baguette, anyway.

Neither fishfingers nor croissants are particularly good or tasty foods. However, put them together and add some cheese and the whole may be better than the sum of the parts, or whatever the saying is. I'd try it.. once, anyway.

I have no idea what fish fingers are. Must be another British culinary abomination.

It's a hard no from me, I'd rather have fish, chips with plenty of mushy peas.

I gotta go with Nev, I'd give it a try. Sounds like a filet o' fish on that fancy frenchy bread.

Despite American ignorance, fish finger sandwiches are a staple for poverty stricken Brit kids. Captain Birdseye will help.

A macca's filet o' fish is the US version. It's basically like two fish fingers conjoined at the hip. It's fine.

Birdseye are posh fish fingers anyway. There are much cheaper about. Not as good, mind you.

Me too, I think they were cheap filler in UK in same way franks or burgers were in USA.I grew up in house where you ate what you were given, all day grazing and fridges full of snacks did not exist.

I had richer and poorer schoolmates all the same, outside treats would have been a Barrets Sherbert Fountain, a bag of gobstoppers, white chocalte mice, hundreds and thousands, a wagon wheel. More expensive candy like a Fry's Turkish Delight, Munchies, bar a Crunchie or my favourite Rolos were not everyday, are they still sold ? They were choc rolls that if slowly sucked released a liquid toffee centre.I feel a whole thread coming on , Fullers pastels , Van Houten Orange, 5 Boys, Tiffin, Milk Motoring.

    Anyone seen LOS?
    Yea or Nay?-download-jpg

Cakes and biscuits were around but not free flow. I recall the aroma of my mother's baking generally cup cakes, Victoria Sponge and fruit cake at Christmas.

As a child the only garlic I ate saw was with Swiss and Italian friends on holiday in Whitstable where Oysters were unheard off at home.

As a teenager I travelled from Europe to Asia and soon discovered the word had a wonderful variety of wine women and food, never looked back.

Another reason I imagine for busy mums fish fingers are quick easy and for picky eaters don't really look like fish nor have bones . I assume they're made from mashed trimmings give me a Turbot , Snapper or Barrimundi anyday.

Last summer I ate weekly at a lovely dog cafe near the Lavender Fields Epsom Downs was surprised to see them on the menu and it many other places.

While much improved , beyond recognition , food for kids the poor and those contained in schools and hospitals still reflects the cheap filler stodge of my youth.

An aside I visited a care home to see my oldest friend pre Covid and the color , aroma and content of the" dishes" were of the 1960s, tragic as the now departed lady concerned had taught haut cuisine in Hong Kong.
The sterile TV room the smell of cabbage , piss and lavendar polish reminded me I'd sooner die in a ditch here.

Not uncommon to find "fish fingers" on Mediterranean menus too (I had them in Greece over the summer).

Although undoubtedly of higher quality than Captain Birdseye's offerings.
