My mum used a slow cooker all the time back in the 80s. Meself and two sisters at school and two parents working full time. There just wasn't the time to cook every night.

I seem to remember we often had chicken.

Plan B Chitty if the apparatus is beyond your ken, perhaps a fast women to rustle up something for you to nibble on as winter drawrers on?

On My recent visits to Cheshire and the Welsh Riviera there seemed to be an abundance of lasses who had evidently enjoyed 3 meals each morning.

In keeping with the subject of the thread, what happened to TD's very own slow cook, Chico?

When I asked him how long my mum normally cooks steak for, he replied "about 3 years."

Too sweet but ingredients were cooked to a juicy perfection and the beef was soft and tender.

I could try and salvage this and turn it into a curry but I reckon the dog deserves a treat.

    1/10

    Back to the drawing board...

    I saw no mint sauce.

    0.5 out of 10.

How could it be too sweet? Did you add sugar?

This one of those "things" that many Americans just do not eat and why add it to food and what's the point. Mint is very strong in general, so I would think it just about take over a plate of food. I guess I could research it but I have never had it, never been offered it on any meal and probably wouldn't eat it on anything. Not busting anyone's chops as its not a bad thing, just very different and I see many of you guys making note that it wasn't there.

Point of order, its horseradish sauce with beef not mint sauce or flaming sickly sweet black been sauce.

Slow cooked lamb shanks with fresh mint from my garden, hmmmm.....you're giving me ideas

The flavour of lamb can be quite overpowering and the strong flavour of mint makes it a great accompaniment.

My wife hated lamb when she first tried it (lamb shank in Brittany) but enjoys it roasted English style with some mint sauce.

Yeah, I think a good reason I was never exposed to mint sauce was I never eat lamb and that seems to be the main use for Mint sauce from what I can tell. Thanks Troy.

It's most probably the fat in a lamb shank that put her off...IMHO.

My missus loves lamb for Sunday dinner and especially lamb chops. Never showed her a lamb shank. Not too keen on them myself.

I got this out today and it still had the plastic end on the plug and made some pumpkin fritters...

They were about as enjoyable as your slow cooked sweet slop but didn't take 8 hours

Dogs look better than the scran to be honest,
A lovely King Charles and a Welsh border Collie, lovely probably my 2 favourite breeds.

    Slow cooking for slow learners

IF ALL ELSE FAILS READ THE DIRECTIONS

Willy I think explained how to coat and Nev how to thicken for thick 'uns, low seasoning.

Remeber golden rule with liquids you can always add more salt spice etc , but you cannot take it out.
I'm sure you know how to dip stick so a few tastings in early stages will save wastage.
Diners can always season at the table

Or perhaps you can find a lady who'd like to bring things to the boil and combine with dating thread

    something along these lines

"Sturdy single with Cockpot seeks lovely lady with a peeler to prepare all night hot stuff with a steamy ending>>>

    GSOH , No Munters yet"

The thread should be renamed the "Crackpot" thread

The dogs getting another bowl full before bed, hopefully it will all be gone in a couple of days so I can slow cook another disaster.

I had to laugh a bit. So do you walk your dog in the morning? Do you carry a bag for clean up? To think you might enjoy your slow cooker meal twice and have it look the same is pretty funny.....

Carry on with the next attempt.

It goes in one end and comes out the other JP.
The bonus in winter here in the UK is that those lovely doggy poo bags keep ones hands warm.
