    Who remembers The Blitz?

My daughter has to cook some food that would have been eaten during the Blitz for her Girl Guides cookery badge.

I could google it but I bet there's a few old duffers on here with some interesting tales and recipes involving Lard

So what's a good meal for her to knock up?

    Just saw something about brains.

Apparently they were in short supply during the war so they made Mock Brains

Mock Brains – Recipe No. 191 – The 1940's Experiment

I'd like to cook something that is gonna be eaten though

So tripe is probably out as well then.

See if you can find some dried egg powder and make up an omelette.

Meat and animal products full stop were in short supply as land for animal feed was turned to vegetable and grain production so most recipes are veg based and supplemented with protein from eggs.

Albino dog turds, one poster uncharitably labelled them

Yeah something nice and easy would be perfect although I'm not sure about egg powder...I'm leaning towards corned beef patties at the moment

The Blitz was in 1940, to have had any decent recollection of the food, one would have had to been born circa 1928. How many 94yo posters are on here do you think?

The Blitz may have missed Miss Kit and Davis by a few thousand km
However ‘Arry may remember and if not he will Google it for you.

    Bacon imprint butties.

The mother slaps the bacon on each sandwich briefly so everyone gets the flavour.

Might be fun to do home made baked beans. 17 hours and looks good. Weren't they an essential food?
