It really is a very subjective and interesting question, though.

Why the Name "Hamburger" If the Patty Has No Ham?

"Hamburger started with the Tatars (or Tartars), a nomadic people who invaded central Asia and eastern Europe in the Middle Ages. The Tatars ate their shredded beef raw (hence the name "steak tartare" these days). According to one account, they tenderized their beef by putting it between the saddle and the horse as they rode. When the Tatars introduced the food to Germany, the beef was mixed with local spices and fried or broiled and became known as Hamburg steak. German emigrants to the United States brought Hamburg steak with them. It showed up on New York restaurant menus in the 1880s. Hamburgers became a sensation as sandwiches at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis."

Yeah, a few unmemorable times in Indonesia I was served a hamburger.

    *with no patty.

    **using fake ham slices.

I cooked a burger last night with some decent beef and plastic cheese (I know it's been mentioned on here about the cheese, but the plastic junk just seems to work so well when it's melted). Salt n pepper, a touch of paprika and some fried onions and cheese.

It was bloody lovely and I can see me being a repeat offender today!

Picked up a Burger King bacon burger with onion rings on the way home from a motorbike ride.

    Not perfect.

    But went down perfectly.

I hated the bread when I got it. Just something not right about it.

    Yeah that looks fkn terrible.

Bet it tasted good though. I would.

I also just saw that McD's is now offering a double-Big Mac or some such fuckery.

Forgot to post this a few days ago, a bacon cheeseburger topped with battered onion rings and their home-made beef pattie and BBQ sauce. Looks a bit ragged after being home delivered, but there's literally about 50 places I could have got a burger delivered from here and always choose the same place.

It's a given that the batter is made with beer I would have thought.

Are you seriously saying you've never even heard of battered onion rings? How about battered fish too, did you know that's a thing?

I never saw the point of wasting good beer to make batter, I've always used soda water and it comes out fine...

No way, it has the flavor of a beer batter.

    Haha. Very good. :clapping_smilie:

but I am still interested in Chitty’s confession that he smashes beer batter a la that cake scene in American Pie? Missing the exwife already or was he always a pervert? And what do the staff in aisle 7 of Marks & Sparks say?

I'd love a battered Saveloy or I think they call them pluto pups in America.

A proper one with beer batter coating.
