Beetroot (or as the rest of the world calls them "beets") on burgers is a hideous Antipodean invention enjoyed only by Antipodeans. Pineapple on pizza is a Canadian invention enjoyed by the entire world (except Italy, of course). Does that throw you into a real frenzy?

^^Personally, I couldn't give a flying fuck over the origins (real or otherwise) of things like pineapple on pizza but I like it so I eat it. And the beets thing is generally by people who don't realise the beetroot that goes on burgers is always pickled which gives it an entirely different taste to the beets they know of in Nth America which are typically just boiled, and not nice to eat at all.

Should have added too, pineapple on a burger is also great as long as there's bacon too to give it salt.

I've had pickled beetroot on a burger, in Australia.

Had been calling bullshit, but, apparently, indeed. Pizza f*cked up by pineapple was first put together in Canada by a Greek immigrant.

And chop suey was invented by a Chinese chef for drunken American sailors in the Fiipines. What a world!

I don't know what the "Fiipines" are, but there are tons of theories about where it came from.

That's the one I subscribe to, because I know what drunk sailors are like. Subic, I believe. Spread from there- and now pretty ubiquitous in the Fils.
Popular bogan fare in Australia, too. As one bogan told me "ya get more for ya money".

Fair enough. Sure, you are too old to change your ways regardless.

You fuckers just had to mention Poutine. Fries and brown gravy I have, cheese curd I do not. Close enough for an afternoon snack though.

    Lets have a visual.

    Thai T-bone

A well marbled America mid west T-bone.

Just look at the difference as HW has pointed out.

^^ Now that doesn't look bad to me. I know it's all the rage to denigrate Thai steak, but you can actually get decent stuff if you do some homework. My goto was the Thai-French operation, based near Sakhon Nakhon. They will deliver, vacuum sealed.

Anyway, I always thought the real soft, marbled mushy stuff was for toothless fairies. Or sushi.

I've done my homework, and wasted money, and aren't buying local ever again. Go to any decent steakhouse in Thailand, they won't even have local beef as an option. There's a reason for that.

Edit to add a pic of the Argentinian steak I buy often, if someone can please post a pic of local beef that's comparable I'd be very interested to see it. What about you Cyrille, let's see what steak you eat or are your teef not up to solid foods?

It's that whole 'Would You Go Back And Kill Hitler As A Baby' moral dilemma / conundrum isn't it.

OK Egon Ronay, if you've got the means to pay for it more power to your elbow- but I prefer to go to those places on somebody elses expense account. If you don't mind paying 3000bht+ for a decent steak, New York steakhouse at the Marriott is a beauty. The newer, trendy places kinda come and go.

It is, as is the Rib Room at the Landmark. I use to stay at both regularly years ago. But good steak for cooking at home doesn't need to be expensive, go back and have a look at the price on the single ribeye I posted on the previous page and the Argentinean steaks I posted above are about 550 Baht a kilo too. I've seen local beef that looks horrible priced higher.

Sorry to hear that. I'll blame the large Ukrainian population for that.

Yes we do. Sadly it is getting more and more expensive every day.
