Plenty of grass and masseurs , wealthy folks everywhere perhaps the fact many Thais eschew beef.
Our way aprt from afore mentioned frozen imports teh next best thinh is
INDECENT THIGH STAKES a high risk game where your marbles may be permenantly claimed by a local "keeper".
i had bought thai cross beef for over 10yrs.from the co-op PON-YANG-KHANM as good as any us.-ausi. beef till the manager left.we used to buy 20-30kiloat a time, cut and delivered to us by their van on the way to bkk.that was till we got TUCKED UP big time by ?.very good meat.but those t-bones at 270bht.for 600 grams are cheaper than we pay for our dogs meat at the local market.where is the shop?most of the supermarkets are selling COW meat at 800-900bht.a kilo.
Will post the address later, I was surprised at the price as well, as all other outlets sell for much more expensive.
That's best. Another thing about Makro and beef selection, you always have to at the date. The frozen stuff can be a year or more old. The packaged weeks out of date. We have all been to Makro meat section. Not many Thai people looking at beef. They prefer to buy pork liver/ stomach, chicken feet, pig udder, etc etc. It's all in bulk.
Absolutely. People do buy it. I don't much care for Wagyu. It's very good but not much better than a well trimmed ribeye. I will be picking up a ribeye slab in BKK this weekend. I just buy the entire sealed package and take it home and cut them to the thickness I prefer then vacuum seal and freeze. In Lampang you can't find quality beef and I do not like ordering online. I prefer to inspect the beef. It's not cheap but I don't eat them all in a few days. A slab lasts 3 months or so. I don't like to keep it frozen to long.
It's incredibly tender, the old melts in your mouth adage is actually true in this case with the high MS cuts. But it’s very rich in flavour and not the sort of steak you'd sit down and eat 400gr of (costs aside). I've tried the very best of the best Wagyu when a friend who's worked in Japan for some 20 years brought a steak to Pattaya once that a few of us got to taste, there's nothing like it but I'd rather a good grass/grain fed steak taken from a Hereford or Black Angus.
Exactly how I do it too, and if they don't have any whole slabs that look the part I'll just buy some individual steaks elsewhere and go back next week. Have posted pics before but a picture really is worth a thousand words when it comes to steak, one quick glance and you know if its going to be any good or not.
Agreed. I have had a few steaks and they are so tender. Flavor is rich as well but as you said, it's very rich and doesn't seem to be as enjoyable as a 200 or 300 day aged Angus steak.
And its this very reason I do not buy online. I want to go and look. I have seen some poor ribeye slabs and some incredibly good ones. Buying online here you have no idea how long they have had it and the quality when it arrives. I will likely visit 2 or 3 places while in BKK looking. Drives my wife nuts but I always argue she will drive 40 minutes to a place to have a dish she likes because apparently no one makes it like they do..
Wagyu- have it raw, sushi style. It's a waste to burn it.
when we used to buy fron pong-yang the meat always looked good,a certain amount of white fat, good colour and easy to cut and a fair price, but since beef became more popular here, all the unscrupulous dealers are selling cow meat [you can tell by the colour of the fat yellow]unless they have soaked it in blood, like they did with the pork and sold it ass beef.as masman curry has got popular so has beef and with a lot of korean resturants opening thats helping the beef trade.we were buying grass fed steak not long ago around 800-900bht a kilo that was a bit chewy, then i noticed the wrapping had a picture of the animal only to look closely and saw it had udders[COW MEAT SURE]
What the actual fuck?!
Yeah that's not good either. One of the great things about living in a Farang ghetto () is there's a lot of foreigners here (well duh) to be catered to, we have access to a huge range of imported steaks from countries like the US, Oz, NZ, Argentina, Canada, Japan, etc, and with so much competition the product had better be good and reasonably priced. We can also go to 5 different shops selling imported beef/lamb and be back home in about an hour. 800-900 Baht a kilo buys some good quality imported steak here that definitely won't be chewy!
i did find the imported harvey brand [ausi] that was a order bound for china but when covid found its way here, makro got hold of it,very good at 260kilo but it didnt last long.
great for roasting.the dog loved it TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
^We always have Harvey beef in the 2 Marco's here, again though this is another one of the advantages of living in a Farang ghetto because they know there's lots of foreigners buying meat each week here that won't accept shit so whatever stock they have gets sent here rather than regional areas with less foreign customers. I buy the whole Harvey beef ribeyes to make roast beef, probably going a bit overboard using imported ribeye for that but it’s not expensive so why not? Bloody beautiful it is too
Ordering heart-attack quantities of steak from Paleo Robbie's just now actually.
They've got good meats.
^Yes I've bought meat from them before multiple times and was always very happy. Ok you don't get to see it till you open the box at home, but it's ran by foreigners who know their reputation is everything so they don't sell shit.
the best beef in the world and you dont need a mortage to buy it,hereford blacks cross with black angus.
could get plenty back home in wales plus salt marsh lamb.
WAKE UP TAFF your in thailand.
Yep...I've lost track of how many orders I have placed with them but it's well into double figures.
The only issue I've ever had is last month when they couldn't get shipping done because all the refrigerated units were locked down over Covid. Sucked but wasn't completely their fault.
Edit: oh yeah and once a jar of pickles froze next to the dry ice and popped its top which made pickle juice go through everything.
^Cold roast beef and hot English mustard sarnies, pure gold!
^And what, because I like hot English mustard with roast beef means something in your opinion? I like beetroot on burgers and pineapple on pizza too, just to throw you into a real frenzy. Fr.
You are what you eat and eat what you fancy!
I love most things Chrivel doesn't like and enjoy the experience.
Pineapple on Pizza's is wonderful with ham or bacon.
One of my wife's biggest sellers!
