Odd food what have you come across?

Hard rock Cafe Beijing shared what i thought were nuts at the bar, the Swiss diplo who shared a birthday with me kindly explained they were fried silk worms, start of a memorable night.

In the siege of s they raided the zoo!
    What oddities have you found?

I was hosted once by Belgian military.

Their butcher always maintained a stock of horse meat.

A Thai restaurant once advertised, Australian grass fed beef. The chewy consistency smacked of a scam. It could easily have passed for shoe leather!

My wife’s stepfather and his nephew invited me to sit down for a feed of something they described as a “tree raccoon.” I have no idea what in Thailand is a “tree raccoon” but I can report it tasted horrible even though my dining companions ate it up with gusto.

Some farmers I knew in Japan served up a bear that had been raiding their apple trees. It was terrible fatty stuff. Thought I would never get that film out of my mouth.

Up the Maekong River decades ago and hiked into a village on a trail in Laos. Just dirt everywhere and no vehicles except for a few motorbikes. A little shack served up BBQ squirrel taken live from cages and killed before your eyes so you knew it was fresh. Poor chippy. Good though. Made dancing shrimp seem like a regular dish.

    How about camel toes?

I'm not keen on chicken's feet but I reckon camel toes would taste ok.

There’s only two things that smell of fish, and one of ‘em is fish!

Conveniently plated for late night, or early morning snacking. Calorific value uncertain.
