Definitely true. I used only a round, cut glass bowl with vertical sides that had been my father's trifle bowl. It was nice to have little traditions. Now the children are grown it will probably pass to one of them. (Probably because I guess that the bowl went with the ex at the divorce.)

And you need hundreds and thousands to sprinkle on top of the next one.

Only exception was I couldn't get trifle sponges, but struck lucky with some Italian Tiramisu ones. Ingredient check:

Started by making the custard. Whilst heating cream in a saucepan, put the egg yolks, golden sugar, corn flour and vanilla essence in a bowl and whisked together.

When cream was hot, gradually added it to the bowl whilst still whisking.

The custard then when back into the saucepan and heated until thickened, again whisking all the time.

When thick and creamy, put into a jug, covered with cling film, and allowed to cool.

Time for the sponges. Spread a finger with raspberry jam and made a sandwich with another finger. Repeated five times.

The fingers were then cut into thirds and placed on their sides in the bottom of a large pyrex dish (don't have a proper trifle bowl).

Pricked the edges of the sponges with a fork, and slowly poured some dry sherry over them.

I've used frozen raspberries, defrosted and drained, which have been scattered over the sponges, and gently pushed down with a fork.

    Then added some sliced banana.

Once the custard had cooled, this then poured over the top.

Finally, some whipping cream, severely whipped until stiff, then spread over the top. Some toasted almonds dispensed to add some more texture.

We'll see what it looks like later when we plate it up and delve into it.
Well, turned out well, with the sherry giving it a real kick. Think that I'll make my own sponge in future though as the tiramisu fingers go maybe a little too soft.

    Coming soon, "Spotted Dick".

    ^ I've already got one!

I would have to say PAG, that your pudding beat mine... but only by a trifle!

I thought that after your first pic showing the ingedients check you had fukked right up... I mean, whoever puts eggs in a trifle!!?

And then you made your own custard... what a show off!

    Superb stuff!

I did in fact find proper jelly in the Korat Mall supermarket yesterday. I bought a couple of packs but I think my trifle days are over.

I saw some jelly this morning also, so took one. Don't know what I'm going to do with it, maybe do something for M'Sahib with it........

Turning my attention to pies for the next few days, but managed to get vegetable suet and the rest of the makings for 'Spotted Dick', which of course will require another injection of the home made custard, though hot this time.

That is very trifley but maybe a tad council-house for posh-PAG. I think his toasted almonds have a touch more clarse.

    Champion effort PAG 10/10

I look forward to examining your spotted dick in all its rampant glory!

Made Apple Crumble today and served with some vanilla ice cream. Added some raisins to the apples and desiccated coconut to the crumble. Was pretty good although the wife would like it a little less sweet. Will try to do that next time.

Using my mother's hand written recipes Looper and enjoying the outcomes. She is 86 now and dementia is claiming her so my sister and I are cooking and photographing them and her handwritten notes to ensure not lost. So far this year I've done Chocolate Self Saucing Pudding, Bread Butter Jam Pudding, Caramel/Golden Dumplings, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Peach Cobbler, Anzac Biscuits and Rock Cakes. In previous years I also perfected her Dark Fruit Cake. Next week or so planning Monte Carlo Biscuits and Lemon Delicious Pudding. On her more lucid days my sister says she understands what we are doing and is happy.

Homestay is closed for the time being so the wife and I have plenty of time on our hands.

^Top stuff Bogan and a tribute to yer old Ma to boot

I had my first decent pudding for a while after a supermarket run.

There were some jammy blobs missing but it was the last one so I snapped up that bad boy.

How Coles can afford to sell a chunky mudcake for $7.50 is bonkers.

I get 6 or 7 posh puddings out of that bewt

    Pudding-img_20210810_001659-jpg

But Coles shares are up to $63 today which is jet propulsion lab territory so who am I to argue with their mudcake pricing strategy...

Lemon Delicious Dessert made to my mother's recipe. Last time I had it made by her was probably the mid-1970s. This is my first attempt and it is hitting the spot.

Every dish you post up looks kind of...startling.

And you never explain wtf they are.

This one looks like a kind of breathing, aged post-it note with too much adhesive.

The last one seemed to have some kind of unexplained brown stuff leaking from the sides, so things are looking up, slightly.

Ah, cyrille. I was quite angry with myself several weeks back asking you if English was a second language. My bad. After watching your posts since then I think it is clear your problems are deeper. I often try to judge if you are having a lucid day, and wonder when the illness will subdue the sarcastic, bitter and banal comments you pollute so many threads with. Totter off son.

Where was the lack of lucidity?

Yet there you were again, repeating a schoolboy error.

It's just fucking funny seeing this stuff after two years of carefully curated imagery.

It's good though - enjoy your time off from your thriving business.

The one you're looking to flog at the bottom of the cycle.

Miss Lusty Luzon was on hand to help out with demolishing the mud cake.

    Pudding-img_20210828_202638-jpg

Served standing in a moat of double cream.

Accompanied by Barry's finest Oirish tea.
