Thread: Supper

I always eat something before retiring so that I don't get hungry in bed. Just as a precaution. You can't be too careful.

This is my supper tonight

The Minx always brings a ton-load of food with her when she rocks up for some reason

This time it is a big wedge of BBQ'ed beef from the Chinese butcher. Suffused with that pungent Star Anise perfume flavour that seems to be ubiquitous to Chinese butchery.

Very tasty.

No photo but I munched on some cheeses and some left over pulled beef brisket that had been made for taco Tuesday

What are we hobbits now?

No pics either, but cheese on toast with a good mature cheddar with added Wocestshire sauce

In our house: breakfast, lunch/dinner, supper.

Now just to be clear, it's dinner ladies that serve the midday meal.

By the time we get our shit together and eat supper, it's pretty much time for bed anyway.

Tea as in afternoon tea? Then what did you eat in the evening?

I'm grown up with breakfast around 7/8, lunch around 12/13 and dinner around 18/19 and where lunch was a light meal and dinner a full meal.

same here, the first time I heard different was in Australia. Tea was their dinner.

On school days tea was a proper meal but at weekends dinner (at lunch time) was the proper meal and tea (at dinner time) waa a light meal.

6-7: Breakfast
9: Frokost -Bread with cold cuts
10:30: Beer or coffee
12: Mid Day: Mostly bread or lighter food
14:30 or 15: Coffee with cake/ biscuits or beer
16: work done-beer
18: Warm food with dessert
20:30: Coffee with cake or bread with cheese or such

21-05:

Visits to the fridge

6-7 one cup instant ovaltine
8 breakfast. Black coffee, low sugar whole grain muesli, or whole meal toast.
12 ish, normally skip lunch, but if heavy day (meetings) maybe a sandwich such as cheese and tomato.
7ish dinner. Normally based on beans or lentils, chicken or fish*
9 ish brush teeth and done



*15 months into working from home this is starting to suffer. It was fuck it and a burger tonight.

I was brought the same as Mendip.
Breakfast, dinner and tea.

Breakfast - cereal or full English. I recall even having meat pie occasionally.
Dinner - at midday if at school school dinners never lunch - the big meal of the day even at weekends. Fish & chips on Saturdays and a roast on Sunday.
Tea - on arriving at home after school - something fairly light
Perhaps a snack (sandwich) and a cuppa later in the evening (never referred to as supper).

^ My mum put a roast on the table every single Sunday... never missed a single one (something the wife could learn from).

Saturday dinner time was usually mince beef, potatoes and peas... and always with rice pudding, for pudding. The word 'dessert' didn't seem to exist back then.

It is called tea if you eat at home.

If you are invited round to a friends it is called dinner (unless you are still 12 in which case even eating at friends is still called tea)

And the other exception is if you eat out. In which case it is called a chinky or an eye-tie!
