Somebody, somewhere discovered or created it and that meant they got to call it whatever the fuck they wanted.

Where are you going with this?

Not going anywhere simply pointing out that

The use of Scotch for Scots or Scottish is otherwise felt to be incorrect, esp when applied to people

What a coincidence. I was just thinking of Scotch pies a few days ago. I have eaten quite a few in my time but it has been a couple of decades since I last ate one.

A Scottish farmer once told me Scotch pies were "made frae cast coos". Maybe that's how they made them 'round his way, though.

On the style of pie, I do like that kind of pastry and prefer it to the crumbly shite on some other pies. Yours look great, Dirk.

A popular way of eating a Scotch Pie (at least in Scotland), is inside a morning roll, usually from the same baker's, as a breakfast.

Got me in the pie making mood. Just ordered from Amazon, 2 sets of 4 of these. Not fond of the throwaway aluminium type you get here, looking for something more substantial.

Takes me back to a Christmas around 20 years ago, brother in law arrived carrying his box of Heineken.

Opened it up and they were 330ml cans despite the large packaging.

Still, he did have a green Santa hat with a flashing red star to wear while he drank them.

You can always buy a refrigerated pastry from the supermarket which has already been rolled out and cut. I mean, first time pie baking and all.

    Dirk IS a professional baker.

No point in making a pie then, bought pastry and maybe tinned filling, may as well just buy ready made pies! Buying ready to use ingredients should be a last resort, with the pleasure of cooking for me at least being creating something from scratch. That said, pastry work is indeed a pain in the proverbial, particularly here in Thailand because of the heat and humidity.

I made a lovely lamb stew last week that would have been even better in a pie.

The pastry scares me, need to get onit like a car bonnet.

Maybe a lamb stew pasty hmmm.

    The possibilities are endless.
