With the G7 currently being held in Cornwall, and of course half time snacks needed for the European Championship football, what better time to make my first Cornish pasties.
Firstly, gather the ingredients.
Then set to making the pastry.
Made into a ball, wrapped in clingfilm, then into the fridge for an hour.
Time to dice up the vegetables and meat. Potato, onion, and Swede/Turnip. Disaster! What I thought was Swede or Turnip turned out to be Beetroot! Need to remember my glasses next time I go shopping. Carrots it is then. Standby for my next thread, "PAG's Homemade Pickled Beetroot". Coming soon. For the meat, I've used sirloin steak, trimmed of the fat and diced.
Next, rolling out the pastry and using a small plate as a template to cut out circles.
Some egg wash around the edges to help the seal, then half packed with the meat and veg mix.
Folded and sealed, brushed with more egg wash, and a couple slits in the top for ventillation. Ready for the oven.
45 minutes in the oven, and the finished articles.
Not the prettiest you'll see, but they'll do the job.
