these days there is no shortage of fine dining in the uk, and yorkshire is particularly blessed in this respect, but to go looking for it in town centre street food targeted at students will invariably lead to disappointment.

for a truly sickening experience, watch danny the lowrent gobshites video entitled " going to bradford to try a chocolate kebab".

Maybe you should head off next to the drunk food thread to give some tips on suitable garnishes.

Britain does actually have some fine cuisine- but no point telling that to those oiks. They revel in grease and obesity, and like dogging afterwards.

^ If I thought grease and obesity would lead to a dogging session I'd stop this diet immediately.

It has some good food for sure, but 'fine cuisine'?

    For example?
    this good enough for you?

Situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors in the picturesque village of Harome, near Helmsley, this much-loved thatched Inn’s origins are understood to date back to the C14th. The current chapter of its history opened with the arrival of Chef/Patron, Andrew Pern in June 1996, since when it has been consistently rated as one of the UK’s top eateries, holding a Michelin star for a generous portion of Andrew’s tenure.

The Star Inn is essentially an Inn with Rooms serving ‘modern Yorkshire’ food made primarily from locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, such as local game, North Sea fish and fresh herbs from its own kitchen garden. Wines and beers are carefully selected to compliment the dining menu, whilst service is knowledgeable, but friendly. Add to this the atmosphere of an Inn with hospitality steeped into its very timbers for a proper Star treat.

    I take it all back.
I'll have the Saddle of Local Shot Fallow Deer… Saddle ‘cooked over coals’, Local Foraged Fungus,
Its own Pâté, Juniper-crust, Cognac, Sauce Rouennaise £32 Thanks
    Or maybe the
North Sea Wild Turbot with Poached White Asparagus, Dressed Whitby Crab,
‘Scallop’ of Roasted North Sea Monkfish Tail with Morels, Mussels and St Germain,
Baked Peat-smoked Jersey Royals Potato £29

And, um a bottle of cheap argentinian wine. Catena Zapata Chardonnay, White Bones, Adrianna Vineyards 13% 2016 Tupungato, Argentina £208.00
( I See where they're making the money)

    It all looks exceedingly pretentious.

agreed, it does look exceedingly pretentious.

the uk has long shaken off its reputation as a gastronomes nightmare, and these days brits are a lot more discerning than they used to be and half the programmes on tv these days seem to be food related

from the streetfood slop in the original posts to michelin starred fare and with all points, budgets and cuisines in between, eating out these days, well, pre covid, is actually a delight.

The wife scraped her toppings to cover the dog ...... she said it wasn't bad. Mine was great, but a tad bit expensive.
