Dry cooking chilis, making it hard to breathe and see.
My missus has a fondness for homemade kimchi. Quite eye-wateringly bad. Not a chilli smell, but a "something died a few weeks ago" bad.
Worse then her pla rah, which is saying something.
^^ Not allowed in my kitchen. Ninety percent of the Thai cooking is done outside, wife prefers it that way.

dont know about the kitchen but my wife and kids started eating that esarn sausgae in the car.

Cook Thai food outside? Why if you have a cooker hood inside? My MiL reckons food taste better if cooked on a charcoal pot. What a load of bollix.
