I've heard people say that it's boring living in Korat, but I'm having none of it.

While I've been whiling away my ti... I mean enjoying the last few months here, I've started a new hobby... I now collect tins of baked beans as well as airline spoons. To be honest the airline spoon collection is stagnating at the moment.

Anyway, as I was waiting for our baked chicken breasts to cook tonight I thought I'd check out my collection. I discovered I have no less than 7 (seven) different tins of baked beans, all bought in Thailand. I don't reckon there's many who can beat that.

Brook is my 'go to', usually easily accessible baked bean in Thailand. Ayam are awful and I'd probably prefer to go without... and cannot comprehend why so many 'restaurants' serving 'Full English' even consider using Ayam beans... they ruin any breakfast's potential.

Heinz in the centre, is I think, the undisputed bean king. Much to my shame I don't think I've ever tried Branston or HP beans, and I'm reluctant to break into my collection. I've also never tried fiamma or Watties baked beans... never heard of them before to be honest but I've noticed them becoming prominent in Makro this year. I think they are sneaking in while other beans have distribution problems during Covid.

    Watties is owned by Heinz.

I'll admit that I don't know how they compare as I rarely eat canned beans.

Don't do Tescos, that's for posh people.

Aldi baked beans are about 25pence a tin and similar to Branston baked beans so a 8/10.

They do a cheaper version which are watery and come in at about 15 pence but they are a 1/10 and that's being generous.

I had to work today, but I have just opened my first can to celebrate baked beans returning to my life on a regular basis although I sent the pic to my mate and he did say that the name sounded like diarrhea, which kind of dampened my enthusiasm.

However, my biggest problem is that I am down to a tablespoon of HP, which means that my plans for beans on toast with cheese and brown sauce could be scuppered if I choose to save the smidgen I have left for the sausages I have in the freezer.

Life is full of difficult decisions, isn't it?

I got used to them since there was nothing else around where I am. If you cook them long enough they are bearable.

In my youth the choice was always between Heinz and HP but I haven't seen HP for yonks so nice to know they are still around.

I don't see either in the shops up our way but every now and again I spot a Campbell's Pork&Beans, which I can tolerate nowadays.

Even then it's the ultra sweet sauce that does for me.

Have you asked this question yet?

MM, can you please help us out cos you've gone awfully coy since Chits said he's got the hots for you.
