    Quicky Ribs and other stuff

Put the trusty Otto to work.

Ribs, potato and carrots. Marinate the ribs for 3 or 4 hrs. Olive oil and garlic powder on carrots. Bit of butter and sour cream on potato and all good to go in about 40 mins.

Could have thrown corn in there but decided to boil it.

Looks good Norton, what did the rest of the family have?

Love me some sweet corn. I've got a half dozen ears of the first of season local corn ready to boil for dinner this evening. The wife will probably eat one ear and I'll have five.

^Oh okay, I guess it is like what we call a Crock pot
    https://www.londondrugs.com/crock-po.../L7749344.html

Good for soups, etc. I never heard of ribs being cooked in the slow cooker, but great idea.

He told you a convection oven. If you read his OP it says 40 minutes for ribs, carrots and baked potatoes. How in the hell could that be a crock pot?

Just slow down and smell the roses sometimes. Jeez...

Nice ribs, Norts. Had similar last Friday.

No offence MM, but I'm absolutely gobsmacked that anybody could look st the photos, read what was written, click on the product link, and deduct that it is anything close to being a crock-pot.

Next time try this. Season as you like, then wrap in foil. Cook for 120-150 minutes at 150C, you will have fall off the bone ribs with the seasonings you used infused.

Good to see you back and presumably healthy.

Thanks for the red first post back.

The main reason I am no longer posting much at all. You almost personally have turned a once fun forum into not much more than a cesspool. Keep up the good work all the while posting from your "villa".

Joe, do give the aluminum foil trick a try.

He's had every step explained to him in the simplest of terms, many times before by numerous posters.

How hard is it to wrap a rack of ribs then bung em in the oven and leave 'em for a few hours at a low temp while drinking discount brandy. About as hard as searing a stea..... oh yes.

Led by The Queen, The Edtards try to turn another top-half thread into a Let's turn posters off the forum with our top-half Edtarding cesspool thread. Sir Norton's nice wee Kitchen ribs thread, this time.

Keep the Edtardin' out of the top-half, if you can find the restraint.

Just ordered a 2 Kg slab for the weekend. Have been meaning to do a BBQ and Oven side by side comparison. Will wrap and do 1kg in the oven, an 1 kg in the barbie if I think of it.

    AO, are you well again?
Just a word of caution, I wrapped something in foil and stuck it in the Otto. Maybe it was a bit too bulky or something. After a while there was a loud bang, the glass lid shattered and the heating element dropped into the food. No harm done, if it had been left unattended there might have been a fierier outcome. I still have the large glass bowl, maybe I could put fish in it?

our otto gave up fairly quickly and we migrated to an electrolux mini oven. I suspect the ottos aren't particularly well made but in your case it may be that the foil was reflecting most of the heat generated back at the heating element and fan and it couldnt cope.

^^ Shutree, I regularly cook with a convection oven and have noticed that if you cover something with foil, unless the foil is well tucked under the meat or fish it will rise up against the convection oven lid. I'm not sure exactly why this is, but maybe that happened to you and I guess this would stop any airflow, and reflect the heat as Mike mentions?

I don't really like to see goldfish in round bowls, to be honest.

Anyway, I made ribs the other night, covered with well-tucked under foil and cooked on low for two or three hours.
