Just enough to cut it into steaks then vacuum seal and refreeze most of it.

Is there a way to defrost just half of it? haha

My hacksaw is rusty and I sold my bandsaw a while back.

Well you could cook it all and have a dinner or 2 and some Sammy's. Kgs is a large hunk of meat? Bone in?

Not really but you could defrost the whole piece just enough to be able to get a knife like this through it to at least cut it into manageable sizes. That's how we used to do whole frozen Rump when we could get them.

It's 5kg or a bit over 11lb's, unless the dinner guest list included the local Tyrannosaurus that's a lot of meals and Sammy's

Do a Mendip with a circular saw, no need to defrost

No need for a circular saw in Korat today.

I'm not sure what you'd call this pork dish I had plonked down in front of me but so long as it's not the pig intestine soup I really don't care.

Peas and long beans fresh from the garden!

So you had ‘the talk’ already or just got lucky?

It’s a lot of beef, I could do a Sunday roast at the bar and cash in but to be honest I don’t want to share it. I’m thinking I’ll do the Porchetta on Sunday 5th March, since I’ll be open early for an epic UFC fight card.

Simple noodle soup today at a local wee hovel. No inners or feet.

Can't blame you, that's somewhere between 10 and 15 quality steaks to be eaten whenever you feel like one in your freezer.

Post a pic of the interior when you do start slicing, that will be good meat. People always think of Lamb when it comes to NZ, deservedly so, but their beef is 1st class as well.

Dirk. All a bit academic but why didn't you cut it before you froze it?

Sure, it's out the fridge now and should be good to get stuck into in time for supper. Dinner to most of you but let's not go there again!

Don't want to sound like a food snob, but Apple goes with pork, not beef.

Its a problem with Paleo Robbie, that some things come in too big portions, and as you note frozen. Even something like a 500g pack of mince is a bit unmanageable, and I am not that keen on thawing and portioning and refreezing.

Think you will be good to trot with you beef if you do not let it get too thawed though.

Mendip sure is going to kick himself if and when he gets around to trying a trial deliver of some of their steaks....

Quite honestly Nid, it's why I do not order online for beef. It's already frozen and unless you have a bandsaw you get a huge hunk of meat.

I buy a large fresh slab and bring home and cut into sizes I want and I bought a vacuum sealer with freezer bags and wrap them nicely. I never let beef go longer than 4 months. They say 6 is OK. Salmon 3 months.

Ya know Mendy that is one of the most presentable meal you have posted. Your wife make that? If so..God Bless her. Proper portion size, not a mess of whatever submerged in some liquid sauce like substance..

Thanks guys for the veiled compliments... I think. I'll pass on your appreciation to the missus.

I still refute the whole portion size thing, but won't go on about it. What I will say however is that my modest Western portions usually include half a medium sized potato and at least half of my meals are veg. The wife's pork thingy today included a whole bowl of rice (in the background), of which I ate less than half. I reckon the wife's meal had more carbs.

And it was me who grew the beans and peas, so let's get real here.

But anyway, like I said, I won't go on about it.
