Indeed - hw, BREXIT has sparked fears about the UK's food standards dropping, as the country is likely to be importing more low quality food from the US.

The most frequently mentioned product has been chicken treated with antibiotics.

Major US producers focus on volume, and are more likely to use antibiotics and have lower hygiene standards.

    Says the poultry website.

Besides those big chickens are tasteless, give me wild skinny chickens anyday.

^Disagree. Have tried every chicken you can possibly get here, both cooked and fresh including straight from a farm, and those big Betagro's are the tastiest by far. If there was better, I'd buy them.

Burgers for my lunch today. Got started by sautéing a couple of onions in olive oil, then added seasoned Aussie beef patties (from Makro, not great quality, best in Nan though).

Then got the other ingredients ready. Buns from Makro. Vintage cheese wedges (because I forgot to get cheddar slices when shopping yesterday) and beetroot made by Sean and his wife Em of Nan Crossroads restaurant.

A little trick I've used for small quantities for fried food...place on a plate, add a crumbled tissue one side and tilt. Thirty seconds and you can drain off a lot of the excess oil. Prefer to do this for small quantities rather than turn out on paper. Getting sautéed onion off soggy paper towel is overrated anyway.

And the end result prior to capping. Went down a treat...as usual. Thinking of making a Peach Cobbler for dessert.

Did think about them. Have some lettuce in the garden ready and some good quality tomatoes in the frig that were intended for homestay guests but there is a limit to the amount of work I'm prepared to put in. Already did bacon and eggs rolls for the wife and I this morning. They had sauteed onions and sliced button mushrooms on them so I'm all cheffed out for the day. But may be on a winner with the wife if I make dessert.

I promised my daughter pizza some time over her holidays but after the disappointing, gloop-heavy food in Nong Khai it came down to the last day.

I had to go to The Mall anyway to get my damn glasses fixed after stepping on them yesterday.

We would usually go for Pizza Company but I wanted to mix it up a bit today and we tried Pizza Hut.

It was a good move... IMHO Pizza Hut wins hands down.

Looks great, Bogan. Particularly the Beetroot. Bit of fried egg would have been tops!

Yikes, Bacon and egg rolls for breakfast and burgers for lunch. Carb-overload day is it?

My lunch today was a burger from the 7-11, a chicken breast burger with espresso flavoured sauce. I had to try it.

It wasn't as bad as I feared or as good as I had hoped. A bit of a nothing burger really (but with a hint of coffee in the sauce).

Only 26 baht but I won't be buying one again. There was hardly any chicken in it - a sliver, about 1mm thick; nothing like the big chunk on the packaging.

Some of that 7/11 stuff is ok to for a snack, but I wouldn't want to live on it.

Salmon skewers with a Soy dip, ok for 20p from the reduced section.

My local 7 Eleven has started selling ready meal Indian food. Gonna try it this evening. Reports so far that it's nice but a bit small.

Very true, especially in UK where the Best Before dates are only advisory, it's perfect for scooping up some food bargains following the old people behind the staff with the yellow stickers or whatever they use now. My last UK supermarket the OAPs were like seagulls behind a tractor following the person with the price reduction stickers, usually late in the evening. And why not? They are on tight budgets and they have time to spare so they can get some great food bargains.

Here the local Tesco Lotus sells all kinds of manky fruit and veg as 'fresh'. By the time they put the 'Reduced' label on it it's not suitable for much but composting.

^ I popped into ASDA last night and there was portly chap hovering around the reduced price bread and cakes, his basket already contained the yellow sticker treasures he'd secured in other aisles - i couldn't see a single item that wasn't reduced - fair play, i saw a news item the other night that suggests 1/3 of all bread is throw out as waste in the UK.
