The contentious issue with them of course is sauce or no sauce, and if we're going to open that can of worms what sauce is best.
A dab of English mustard on a hot roll.
If cold, I like them with Branston pickle.
    No worms, canned or otherwise.

^Oh there's worms alright. Who in their right mind would put English mustard on a sausage roll? And what sort of a lunatic would eat one cold???!

Armstrong's sausage rolls look good... but for me a proper sausage roll has to be made from short crust pastry, not puff pastry (same for pies).

Eaten hot with tomato sauce, or even better some baked beans!

In fact I may even make some today.

I never found one anywhere near Gregg's calibre in Asia.

^Never eaten one so I have no benchmark for comparison. TBH the fillings in most sausage rolls I've ever had has always been pretty similar, it's just the pastry that separates them.

Me to, never used to get it but the last 10 years and a pie is just asking for an hour of burn until i relent and run for the rennies. Trouble is like childbirth the memory fades and the mere sight of a steak and kidney or chicken and mushroom pie and i can't help it, not that i've given birth, well not to a child.

Well... once you buggers sowed the seed...

While I'm stuck in Korat and want sausage rolls... as I find with a lot of other things... I have to do it meself!

Main thing... remember to take the skins off the sausages.

Baste with egg and milk. I had a bit of pastry left over so made a ham and cheese pasty. Who needs Gregs?!!

All ready, and in the oven they go...

    ... and out the come!

    And the money shot!

And could ya bladdy believe it... we've run out of Tomato Sauce. It seems stocktaking is yet another thing I'll have to do myself.

But anyway, with some homemade cream of chicken soup made using the roast chicken carcass from a couple of nights ago... lunch for two!

They're a bit special, those Gregg's sausage rolls mate. The only thing I miss from back home now. Well then and a good balti.

Gregg's have a bigger presence than Maccy Ds in the UK now. . Over 2000 shops. That's about a quarter of 7/11s in Thailand but they are only selling pastries.

If I was in Thailand I would be making a special trip to Armstrongs Villa and clearing it out.

Yes, I might say so - well done.
His attempts and reasonable success might be quite humbling for some.

I'm still not sure... never tried this before which is strange as I wouldn't consider a pork pie without a smear of English Mustard!

    Nice job Mendip!

I went downstairs to the vegetarian place to try their veggie burger. It was my first and last try. It was made from mushroom, but all the taste has been cooked out. Bland as heck.
