Braised pork knuckle and some fancied up mashed potatoes. Pork knuckle from Makro so no chef claims about that.

Perhaps oddly, I really like eggs cooked like that on top of Thai food but not on a plate with things like bacon or sausages.

Had to look that up... I'd say medium - a nice kick, but not overpowering in any way.

I'll add, that this with the potato is perfect - tastes much nicer than with rice, imho. I didn't expect it to work as well as it does.

    ^^ looks good.

I went for sushi on weekend, no fresh salmon at all. Everything else was still available, but no salmon.

One thing we've never understood about NZ is the cost of salmon . . . currently $42/kg - ridiculous

I've only ever been to NZ once ... and that was Auckland, just after the America's Cup.

Is there salmon in the NZ rivers?

Yes, there are - cultivated but grown in rivers or farms. Another oddity is that you cannot buy any trout anywhere. You can catch it and eat it but the sale of trout is prohibited and there is no cultivation of it - prohibited.

You'd think the Kiwis want you to solely eat lamb and beef

Cultivated is not wild though. Do you have real wild salmon?

This must be for Alaskan wild then? I just checked the local grocery store price. $9.98 a pound for wild sockeye salmon. This is the time of year that many local Salmon runs start as they make their way back up the rivers to spawn. Lots of sport fisherman will be out angling.

I have travelled and lived abroad. But nothing like many of you. I am needed here at the moment and my family will always be my priority.

Do you have to fly fish for it or can your catch trout as you please? I used to love catching brown trout with a hand line and worms. It used to be my Sunday breakfast many years ago...in Cornwall

That's really odd, plenty of rainbow trout to be bought in Australia.

Here in Washington state you can either fly fish or use a rod and reel. Some really nice rainbow trout here.

Is a coral reef 'Rainbow Trout' related to the 'trout' about which you speak?
