M'Sahib's Gumbo was good, and yes, salmon a little bit over and the dish itself on the dry side. Didn't really care that much, as the view did indeed make up in part for less than great food.

I was on a few Greek islands recently and had some lovely lunches. Long and usually accompanied with something alcoholic.

If I can be arsed going through the laborious TD upload procedure this weekend, I'll post the pics.

My offering today....we stumbled into probably one of the more hi-so places, unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time. We'll be back...

Fried ravioli with cheese sauce, grilled tuna sandwich and pasta.

The only downside there was a group with a young kid running around followed by his nanny in scrubs.

    Sometimes simple is best.

After all my vet duties yesterday morning I realised I hadn't had any breakfast, and it was lunch time.

A brace of boiled eggs with an ice cold glass of milk. Just the job!

And incidentally... why ever does Makro put the bread just inside the entrance? It's always the first thing you put in your trolley and then gets crushed by the following veg and meat.

I'd agree, though I prefer my eggs poached.

Had a bit of a craving for some regular Thai food today, and headed for one of our favourite places which is close to Phuket Immigration. As I've been doing the last few 90 days report on-line, we hadn't been there for must be nearly a year. Anyway, it can get quite busy at lunchtime so got there early.

Draught Heineken is something of a bonus.

The prawn cakes are always good, and unlike many places that put pork in them, these are only prawn.

These were ordered thinking they were crab sticks, turned out to be cheese and ham. Good though.

A recent discussion on Laab Moo Tod led me to order some as don't believe I'd ever had before. Again good.

Continuing the Laab theme, M'Sahib went for some Laad fish.

And a plate of fried rice with crab (again, unlike many places, packed with fresh crab meat).

I opted for my favourite, a seafood coconut curry inside a coconut shell.

A mix of fish, squid, prawns and mussels, excellent.

I haven't had dinner yet, now I'm positively gagging for a feed after looking at your lunch pics a quick question though what is laab moo tod led? Is it laap deep fried? Looks great. But if so? I'm unlikely to get her indoors to deviate from the tried and tested Lao Laap.

Certainly deep fried, with a crisp outer and soft inner. Not had before, seems like a laab moo just mixed up and rolled into balls before frying.

Here's a recipe if you fancy it yourself.

^ I have to say that larb moo is my favourite Isaan dish but I much prefer the normal version to the 'tod' version.

It's the wife's birthday today so she went to 'the Temple' early and deserted me before lunchtime.

I don't get much spare time lately but still knocked meself up a lovely little lunch.

Bangers and Beans on toast with a drizzle of cheese. The biggest question of the day was 'with or without' Daddies sauce.

    I went 'without'.

Bit of a nostalgic Sunday, with a visit to what was once a regular haunt of ours, Chaiyo restaurant which is on a small creek off Chalong Bay. Location is still good, though they've really been hit hard the last couple of years, with their main customer base (locals) now few and far between. What was once good food is now in the average category, which is a shame.

Anyway, we ordered. First off some squid tempura (not really tempura as the batter too heavy).

That was joined by some prawn cakes, which M'Sahib declined as apparently there was some pork mixed in with the goong.

M'Sahib went for some deep fried squid with black pepper.

some cockles (at least that's what she calls them.

Some kind of local Phuket sour fish soup.

Meanwhile I played safe with a whole deep fried snapper with sweet and sour sauce, along with what was actually a very good small seafood fried rice.

The location and some decorative items.

Checked out a Uyghur restaurant yesterday for a couple of bowls of beef noodles. It was a winner.
