Have been doing a bit of travelling in the Low Countries. We had some lovely, hearty lunches while we were there.

    How many can you name?

    Lunch ... the second course-20241023-153406-jpg

Dutch beef stew with chips (and the obligatory mayonnaise on the side for dipping the chips that haven't been soaked by the stew).

    Lunch ... the second course-20241023-144631-jpg

I couldn't get enough of this pea and ham soup.

    Lunch ... the second course-20241023-154329-jpg

Mussels in a fairly spicy broth (reminded me of Korea- very tasty and preferable to mariniere IMHO). And the mussels were MASSIVE!

The American mind really cannot comprehend moisture and flavour on the same plate like we Europeans can.

    Looks nice.

Will you be posting the photos you sent Chitty and he posted as his own Amsterdam trip?

I actually read on here that Chitty was there at the same time and we actually went to the same restaurant and ordered exactly the same thing!

Getting a bit big for your britches there mate.

The Italian American Yank version includes not only mussels, but also crab, clams, scallops and generally halibut.

    Cioppino.

They appear contracted and overcooked, which makes them chewy and tough, just the way you Brits like your protein apparently, easy to do if you have no fucking clue what you are doing. Fortunately, we have the best mussels in the world here, so the chefs know how to properly cook them.

Do the Europeans know that you island monkeys are trying to latch onto their cuisine?

I love it, and we have some great renditions of it here in Seattle.

    Bloody ell.

I would have posted something dry and burnt if I'd known our resident yanks would be triggered so much by a bit of moisture on a plate.

Cheap cheap and aroy mak mak.

Always good for some "fnar fnar" schoolboy humour when ordered in Thailand too.

Not really eaten much in the UK though unless you're at the seaside or a restaurant.

Downtrodden 50 baht an hour TEFLer business lunch. And I didn't even have to wash the dishes to cover the bill!

Pork and sauerkraut / bacon and eggs / Yorke and Cole / Chitty and Granny Smith from number 62 getting it on. Classic combos of our time.

    To finish? Why not?

Although, in my defence, we did share the salad.

And I have just walked to the gym (and sat in the sauna for 45 minutes).

And I am off the beer.

    And it is nearly Christmas.

And, err, yeah...fat bastard it is then.

Man o man. Oysters look delicious. I just had a half dozen a few days ago at the waterfront with my wife. She had scallops.

Weather looks perfect. Today is our first rain of the season.
