^ A fair appraisal, although we shall see with the breadmaker. It does serve a few purposes unlike the others you've mentioned

Yeah, looks a bit like getting married in Patterz rather than sticking with delivery.

Do you have Makro in Malaysia? Even out in the sticks in Korat we can get decent brown bread from Makro.

There are some great bakeries here. The Indians love their roti and there are loads of places to buy fresh bread and foods from back home.Although the Malay seem to love their sweet bread like the Thais.

I'm still not getting any bread smell although it is still on rise and will be on bake next.

^ I spent around four years living in Kuantan, the other side of the peninsula from where I guess you are.

One of my favourite breakfasts was the roti canai with dahl. I much prefer Indian food to Thai food.

One thing about homemade bread... it makes great fishing bait. It's usually so hard and stodgy it stays on the hook really well.

Yup. The "Farmhouse" brand lasts for months also..

The need to make our own bread vanished with the arrival of a couple of (very good) local bakeries here in Banchang a few years ago. Both still doing good business.

I passed my Breadmaker on to one of my sisters.

It was great first thing in the morning just hot out of the machine, two doorsteps with carved butter slabs. The problems is that i wanted the bread for sandwiches and no matter what i tried with variying ingredients the fooking bread just started to get crumbly by day two. The sandwiches literally fell apart. Gave up after about 6 weeks. Was a top of the range panasonic, great crust.

Yeah, apparently this freshly baked stuff without oodles of preservatives doesn't last long. I'm sure I remember a time, as a nipper, when eggs, bread and milk lasted about 10% of the time they last nowadays.

Dilly is back to the 70s.

&, we need to see that bread cut open and a taste test.

Crumpet bread would be a master stroke. Contact Hovis, Dilly, they will be creaming their panties when they hear about this!!!

This is the bread I get from Makro... it's not bad at all.

The main problem is it's not square so it doesn't fit in the toastie maker.

That's about the best we ever managed with ours... Broke around 3 bread knives trying to carve through the crust alone.

One week later your new toy will languish in the cupboard of dusty, unused kitchen machinery, same as ours.

    Next to the waffle iron?

Waffle Irons go into Dilly's sextoy cupboard rather than the unused appliances cupboard.

Making a medium loaf. Teaspoon of yeast, 400 grams of bread flour, 15g of butter, teaspoon of sugar and one of salt and 280ml of water.

Couldnt find a way to turn it down to 4 hours instead of 4 and a half so in a dilemma whether to take it out 30 mins earlier.

No smell of bread in the house yet and I heard some funny noises coming from it earlier. Maybe I didnt put the kneading knife in properly.

Expecting a Chitty Crocker style outcome.

Well done. Your first one. Sod what it looks like if it tastes nice.
When you say medium loaf in size/weight, is that 500gms or 750?
    Here's what i do for a 500 gm loaf;
340 gms flour, 240 ml water,
teaspoon of yeast may be too much unless its a 750 gm loaf, ditto salt & sugar.
I know all bread machines are slightly different but a medium crust 500 gm loaf in mine is 3.35 hrs and a 1kg loaf is 3.55 hrs.
    Keep at it.
Oh, and i now substitute olive oil for butter, just easier in measuring and throwing all the ingredients in.
