What did you have on the plane?

My recent travails have only reinforced my belief that the ME airlines are head and shoulders above the rest.

What did you have on the plane?-american-jpg

    American Airlines, Bogota to Miami.

What did you have on the plane?-united-jpg
This is all I deemed worthy of a photo on United Airlines. They gave us a solitary bag of peanuts on a 4 hr plus flight from Panama City to Houston. What on earth has happened to the US carriers? United wanted to charge us to watch TV too despite having a measly 8 films on show! I've heard people criiticise BA over the years, but they look almost profligate when compared to United. AA were better, but nothing like I remember from the 90s.

Some of the airport lounges have been ok though.

This was a passable attempt at a Thai gai pad king (phat khing if you're a Jeff). A little too salty, mind.

What did you have on the plane?-desserts-jpg

What did you have on the plane?-desserts-2-jpg

The desserts have always been bang on the money.

There's some good Asian airlines too of course, SQ is very good just for starters. But yeah, the ME airlines have definitely got their act together and there's a healthy competition going on between them all to see who can be the best - which is great news for travelers.

They were always shit, the exception being Air Canada with whom I've had some really good flights but I have no experience with them in the last 8 years or so.

Flew them once and never again. Fucking heifers for Stewardesses and the snappy reply I got when politely asking for a bottle of water (in business class) turned me off them forever. Ditto Qantas on the banned list, but substitute the fucking heifers for poofs as one of the main reason they're shit.

I'm flying TG in either F or J class at the end of this week, will post pics of onboard dinner after getting home.

The American carriers have suck for a long time.

I think Asian airlines are the best myself.

The problem with ME airlines is the other passengers are heathens. I flew Emirates from Washington to Bangkok last year and it was horrible. The fuckers never settled down the whole time so on the way back I upgraded to business and that was the same some group of A-holes up talking the whole flight until I told them to shut it.

The last offering on MIAT was pretty decent for a small airline. Flying out on Korean Air in economy in a couple of days, will be curious to see if I get some trad Korean goodness

Yeah, Mongolia does weird salads, tasted okay!

Not going to win any awards, and it was a far cry from what is on offer on EVA or Ethiad, but it hit the spot and was a comforting meal, ideal for some pre napping

The beer was cold and plentiful, can't ask for much more than that. They did serve a German sparkling wine in a tumbler, it was horrific.

That does look good. The reason I enjoy the likes of Emirates is that they never stop serving you whereas others have been cutting back massively. Ping the bell and they're down with a sandwich and beer in seconds.

My last flight was on Himalaya Airlines KTM -DMM. No booze and an incredibly boring chapati and cheese.

My last long haul flight was Finnair BKK-HEL and they now charge for all alcoholic drinks.

Sad to say this was one of the worst Thai Air main meals in memory .
What did you have on the plane?-1-jpg
Started off ok, no bastard sitting beside me (one never knows when some fucking retard like Jeff might board a plane on his annual vacation) and straight Vodka. Not really, just water

What did you have on the plane?-2-jpg
A TD tray, mixed fruits and nuts.

What did you have on the plane?-3-jpg
Very disappointing with this, they had Snapper in a ginger sauce that sounded very nice but it was all reserved already by the time they took my order. Can't even remember what this was all called, but it was some sort of a slightly spicy lemongrass salad with prawns and chicken curry. The prawns were the frozen packet type, and the salad was not to my taste

What did you have on the plane?-4-jpg
The chicken was tasty but only a small serve. No worries though, I ate a belly full of smoked salmon finger-food sandwiches in the lounge so I wasn't really hungry.

What did you have on the plane?-5-jpg
And the finisher. There was desert on offer but I declined, that black rice Thai desert with coconut milk (whatever it's called) or Tiramisu.

Bottom line is, the personal space and legroom is all you're getting with the TG J class product these days. Forget the food.

On our last trip over Korean Air. On the first leg Washington to Seoul. Flying on a 777-300ER . The second leg is usually on a A380 but I've had enough shit meals by then and just want to get there.
They haven't changed the menu in 5 years which seems a bit sad given what they charge for a ticket.

I can still taste those peppers from one of the meals on the way home. Mabee I should have tried the bibimbap.

^^I've flown Korean Air quite a few times, have nothing but praise for them. A very good airline.

I have never ever consumed alcohol during a flight.

Quite possibly as I would be then longing for a smoke.

Yeah we have been flying on Korean Air for a while nice cabin staff in the back and front.

Passengers are pretty tame for the most part except for the usual old couple that try to get up as soon as the plain lands.

I do miss Narita airport though for some reason it seemed more homey than Incheon I haven't been there since Northwest went tits up.

Thought Korean Air was pretty solid, the meals were small but tasty. The last leg was on MIAT economy and the food seems to have improved greatly.

You've never flown with the world's worst budget airline "Ryanair" then.
I covertly necked a bottle of duty free vodka in four hours just to endure the torture last time I flew. How I survived without incident is a miracle.
The whole quality of the flying experience has dropped over the years, Emirates was just tray after tray of fodder.
Best ways is having a large decent restaurant meal before one's flight then sleeping for the duration.

I always have a belly full of my wife's food before flying and if necessary take some chips for snacks with me.

Cannot remember ever falling asleep on a flight which is a problem for me even when flying first or business class.

Just sitting in the same spot for hours on end drives me batty!

Diazepam (Vallium)for me, one before boarding, one when I sit on the plane then neck as much alcohol with the meal as possible and this should knock me out until landing.

I seem to sleep better in economy class, which is absolutely mental haha.
Lot of it could be to do with not guzzling every kind of beverage going, unlike when I fly business. Never flown first, far too rich for my blood.

Plane food isn’t known for being particularly luxurious, but most people still believe they’ll get a decent meal when they fork out money for a flight. A few unlucky passengers have revealed that this isn’t always the case, sharing photos that show meals such as suspicious-looking stews, dry fish and chicken and mash ‘slop’. The images were released as part of a survey conducted by Which?, a review and testing site that provides consumers with tips on which products or services to purchase, along with comments from participants about the disgusting meals they’ve been served.....Enjoy

Thai Airways, OSL - BKK a couple of days ago. The cheese was ok.

Plastic cutlery as well... so I couldn't even add to my collection.

I fly back to Europe with KLM next month and the sad thing is, I know the food on that flight will be even worse. I generally take sandwiches now for long haul flights.

^ An expensive option... cheaper to find a new hobby I think. Besides, can't see the company paying extra to accomodate my spoon collecting.

My daughter has now started an airlines blanket collection!

^ My flight coming over from Oslo this week was probably only two thirds full. That can't be helping. I had three seats to meself.
