    It's mid-November.

    A quiet time.

It's only very recently that the expectation has become for every seat on every plane to be sold.

From The Bangkok Post, OCT 2019

"THAI would cut costs by reducing the salaries of managerial staff"

This sounds like a familiar problem, though underling 'managerial staff' are almost certainly paying the price for the fat cats at the top.

They might do better cutting managerial 'privileges' and (allegedly) abuse.

I read sometime ago the stats on Thai Airlines.

On International Flights they roughly average 70%.

Last time I flew with them, the fuckers were 100% full in cattle class.

I didn't see an empty seat.

    back to the food
on the ME airlines, particular Qatar
i have taken to pre-ordering the Indian vegetarian menu. Has a number of advantages:
    its a curry
    it actually tastes of something
stops some other [at][at][at][at] getting the usually decent 1 of 3 offerings they have

you also get served first which is handy when travelling with kids
    we won it at wemberlee
we on it in gay paree...

A Thai friend of MM is a HR Manager with Thai (a relatively high one from what I gather). Has been with them since graduating from Uni 20 years ago.

His house cost $1m (35,000,000thb), just bought a new 2nd Benz. The family fly first class to nice global destinations twice or so a year.

The rest of his family don't seem to enjoy such wealth, so doubt it is inherited.

    Bogon Tip #854

Just to reiterate reinvented and cyrille.

Doesn't matter who you fly with long haul, they all give you the option of preordering your meal.

I always go for the Muslim/Hindu meal option and say I'm allergic to seafood to guarantee that I don't get fish.

    Always served first.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

This pre-ordering does sound like a decent idea.

Maybe I should go for the Kosher order in advance option - surely God's chosen people are gonna be served up some decent food (or just easily picked out on ME airlines...).

I cannot and will not eat airplane food. Not only is the food not very good, you have no idea when they made it. Worse for me is that the entire airplane becomes polluted with a nasty mixed smell of chicken, beef or fish mixed with the head being opened by the masses that go shit after they eat.. Even flying business class I will only eat the ice cream. I eat before I board, bring some snacks in my backpack and eat when I land. The stewardesses always look puzzled when I say "No Thank You" when they come by with that food cart.

What is really disgusting to me is when someone next to you chows it down like its their last meal. No shit on my last flight to Korea a few weeks ago the guy sitting next to me after I declined the meal asked if he could have my meal. I said sure....whatever. Slob ate two meals..

JPR are you able to perform the magic feat of not breathing in shit particles throughout the flight. I'll recognise you by being the bloke in seat 2a with the scuba outfit. Are you howard hughes' grandson by any chance..

Hey we all have to breath it. Its life in airplanes, but doesn't mean you gotta enjoy it..HAHA

If you fly as much as I have, you see and smell some nasty stuff. Why I do not eat the food.

No I am not a germ phob. Just posting my comments on about food on planes.

On edit, I am about to fly back to the US for business. Can't wait. Then I fly from SFO a few days later to Tuscon AZ, stay a few days, then fly to Santa Barbara then a day or so later back to SFO then a week or so later back to Thailand...

Made me laugh, it aint pleasant being couped up with so many people without any way of taking time out, imagine if you also had to listen to someone droning on in a brummie accent for 11 hours as well.

Amazingly I have not been in that situation much. Few times and I just take out my Bose noise cancelling headphones and problem solved. I could tell tons of stories about stuff that has happened on flights. But to your point, flights back to the US are painfully brutal. Usually on 2nd leg out of Taipei or Japan to SFO by the 7th or so hour I am to the point where I want to go run around the plane. HAHA

Anyway here is a funny one, a few years back on a flight from Tokyo to SFO some big fat lady got stuck in the shitter. There was this big commotion and her daughter was waving for help. Captain came back. They spent 20 minutes tearing off the adjoining shitter wall to get the heffer out.

You might be misinterpreting the look. Not having a meal (or anything to eat) - or anything to drink except sips of water is a classic hallmark of a drug mule.

Ohhhh. now back the liquor bus up....I didn't say I didn't drink. I just do not eat airplane food. I usually have a big bag of cashews or Cab Moo. Goes great with cocktails. I Love EVA, the drinks are free....

Ya know the difference between Economy food and Business class food? Nothing really. They just take the stuff out of the tin foil heated trays and put it nicely on the plate and give you metal utensils which I find funny as hell as they give you the weapons closer to the pilots.

One does get the food first although it's pretty dire. Always change seats after the meal!

    Wow!
Might be a hint [among other things] as to why TG has long struggled to stay afloat and profitable in the very competitive industry.
Too many unnecessary wealthy Indian chiefs and not enough Indians.

If not for the direct royal subsidies, they might've been belly-up some time ago.
