    The TeakDoor Porridge Thread

What is the secret to a really good porridge consistency?

Let me share my precious porridge advices with all my friends on THE DOOR

    1. get some quality oats. Not the Woollies own brand.
    2. grind the oats into a fine powder (see the red container). I use my coffee grinder to do this since I have never got around to acquiring a food processor. If you do this then your porridge will taste like yummy ReadyBrek and give you radioactive warmth in winter
    3. Put 3 heaped table spoons of oats in a bowl
    4. Add half a teaspoon of salt
    3. Add a long squirt of maple syrup or ordinary syrup
    2. cover the oats generously with milk. Too little milk will make the porridge thick and gooey and solid so drown them in milk. Perfect porridge should be only slightly thicker than soup
    1. Microwave for 3 minutes and 45 seconds

    Et Viola....

Perfectly runny and readybrekky porridge for a winters night

Perfectly runny porridge is better than thick and gooey as it can also be poured over your dog or your wife if they are misbehaving and need brought to heel.

Here endeth the perfect porridge parable for today.

    Instant oats in a bowl
    Add some sugar
    Add boiling water, mix thoroughly
    Add cold milk, mix again.
Add raisins or honey for extra taste

Too little boiling water will result in stodgy porridge. Too much and it might be too runny.

Do we worry about the carb content or the calorie count?

    That is the real question.

If you are on a serious low carb diet (such as for diabetes) then you must be careful as oats are quite high. That being said, they are generally thought of as "complex" carbohydrates, and so are quite an important part of a healthy diet. Plus, they are a good source of fiber.

As a side point, go for whole oats, which are better than the processed "instant" oats.

I have a couple of spoons of the oats that Ant put up, each day.

I have tried one bowl of porage, pollit, porridge. That was enough. All the berries, bananas, or chia seeds in the world would not make it taste any better.

Can't beat porridge / oatmeal for brekkie, imo. The complex carbs give a slow-release of energy that keeps you going for the best part of the day. I usually mix in a banana, raisins, and a bit of cinnamon and that's all I need most days.

Try adding a pinch of salt and honey to taste. Like half the forum it seems, I use the McGarrett oats too and this simple hack makes it much more enjoyable.

Yes, just this. Basic proper porridge, with added alternatives. Bice on Nev. Colonials can be a bit dodgy sometimes.

The real breakfast of champions is a tumbler of Jack Daniels with a Chang chaser.
Its healthy, tastes good and is ready in seconds.

You are what you eat. Scots eat porridge. I need say no more. Discussion is now over. Its just insults here on in.

WTF...Do you guys really eat "Porridge", "Polage", "Pollidge" or whatever you call it because you have no teeth and can't swallow solid food? Good Grief. That all looks like Baby food I fed my daughters in a high chair with a plastic no spill spoon, a bib and a sippy cup...
