Tom, i think those terms are no longer valid in today's society, ya minx. Dill, Cujo and few others are just coming to terms with effects of plastic pollution in the environment - go easy

Yeah, and uh, no. While there is a biological basis, this was actually propaganda put out by the british to mask the introduction of airborne radar in repelling night attacks by the german airforce early in WW2.

Broccoli is healthy. You are eating a flower.

    Healthy-ish meals-p7265155-jpg

Carrots can make you see in the dark.

This is the first time I have ever bought brussels sprouts in my life. I remember not being all that fond of them at Christmas Dinner as a kid but they looked cute in their little string bag in the veggie shop so I thought I would go out on limb.

Whip up some cheese sauce. Make enough cheese sauce to last 6 nights so the next 5 nights' dinner preparation is blokishly simple.

    Healthy-ish meals-p7265156-jpg

Drizzle the cheese sauce over the assorted steamed veggies et viola!

Broccoli is the tops. However, I can confirm that my teenage memory of brussels sprouts is accurate and despite their cuteness I will pass on a second string bag.

The great thing about eating a healthy main course is that you earn enough nutritional credit to afford to splurge on a halloween sized pile of ultra-highly processed carbs for dessert.

    Healthy-ish meals-p7265157-jpg

That's the big mistake people make, telling themselves that. The fact is NO YOU DON'T.
In fact I'd be concerned about the carbs in those carrots, and also how was the cheese sauce made?

Anybody who starts weighing food and counting carbs and calories is not right in the head (or body) in my book.
Embarrassing to see what this forum has become.
A bunch of gaylord back patters congratulating each other on what sort of rabbit food they can concoct up next.
    Whilst weighing a lettuce leaf.
    Pathetic.
I'm off to read Manic Meat Eaters Dot Com and join up with Box Of Chang Per Day Party Animals United.

    Footnote;
was in the vets the other day, so er, weighed myself.
Down 5 kgs to a very respectable 110. Chuffed to bits. Dunno where that came from.

    .
That's fine but watch the spuds, very high carb.
Why on earth is taking an interest in ones health and fitness level and/or getting in shape/losing weight gay?
No one WANTS to be a fat slob I'm sure and as we get older it's important to maintain health. Without having to be on 'meds'.
Ever hear that? "What 'meds' are you on?".
I'm not on meds, I'm on a healthy diet.
Fat slobs taking the piss out of people who'd rather be fit and healthy seems a bit defensive.

You have to make do with what you have. Even my kids have stopped trying to find good Thai food in the states. They make it with supplies we bring to them.

I will never give up my pasta and potatoes. Just simply burn more calories in order to accommodate them.

I had my kids late at 45, always was into sport but never daily exercise. So 15 months ago I took it up. I simply dont need a bigger chop than that it fills me up. Dont get me wrong I have a burrito chili cheese dog up on the blokes cooking thread so I do cheat.

So you were over 260 pounds a while ago. Wow, unless you are 6'5" that is quite a lot..

I want to be around for a while having 21 year old twins who just finished university and have begun their working careers in the US of A..

    There's nothing wrong with carbs.

They're an important part of a healthy, balanced diet.

I always found it weird when people weigh food and drive their entire life around their diet. However I understand some have to for various reasons. I seem to burn what I eat generally speaking because I am super hyper active and do eat reasonably "Healthy-ish". But F that diet crap and vitamin supplement nonsense. Live life.

    That looks tasty.

There's dieting, there's eating sensibly and there's not giving a fuk - at various times I do any of these, but as you get older it makes sense to eat sensibly, exercise and keep yourself healthy. Some folks like to take more care, weigh their food, etc, and there's no problem with that, imho.

I agree that carbs are an important part of a balanced diet, but anyone trying to lose weight needs to at least be aware how many carbs they are eating.
There's also the issue of simple carbs and complex carbs and the issue of the glycemic index, insulin and diabetes.
I was just having a laugh about the carbs in the carrots. They are healthy complex carbs with lots of fibre.
The cheese sauce I don't know so much.
Cheese is low carb, but if the sauce was made from plain white flour......
