    SKkin's BBQ Follies

First up some nice thick boneless pork chops. Marinated in a garlic ginger teriyaki...

Ok chops out of marinade, marinade put in bowl on the right to brush chops while grilling. On the left got my sauce going for the sweet heat smoky beans. Bean sauce includes Huy Fong garlic chili sauce, some garlic hoisin, a few drops of worchestershire, about a tablespoon of liquid smoke, some sorghum molasses, brown sugar, sprinkle or three of dry mustard powder and some bottled bbq sauce.

Beans ready to go in the oven while grilling chops...

Out to the grill...getting some smoke on those bad boys. Applewood pellets and chips in the smoker box. Used direct and indirect heat methods.

Back in the cool AC letting the chops rest a little alongside the castiron cornbread the wife made.

Dinner is served...sesame ginger dressing on the salad and a glass of wine. Wife provided the wine, I know nothing about it except that it tasted good.

Next up, beer can chicken...or rather root beer can chicken. Never done one before, should be interesting. Thursday is the plan for that...maybe.

What? Long history here of beans over fire. But you're right, did mine in the oven. I cheated a little...

Weird how different those chops look on the BBQ as opposed to how they look inside.

Everything because they sure as hell are not supposed to have anything to do with breakfast. The limeys got the baked bean from America and bastardized them into a breakfast food. Disgusting really.

SK, that was frigging perfect. One thing is for sure, you can't fit a cast iron skillet in a frigging Otto to make cornbread.

From what I see nothing much about BBQ.
    Grilling, smoking (beans?ffs).
And why are molasses and brown sugar being mentioned in conjunction with BBQ?
The only thing that needs to be mentioned on a BBQ thread, aside from the cut of BEEF (for me, rump steak), is onions and beer.
    Farkin septics.

Some good looking grub there. I haven't had cornbread in a long time. Nice combination, cornbread, baked beans and some smoky BBQ pork. All that was missing is some hot apple pie topped with a scoop of New York vanilla.

I'll have to plan something like that for the 4th of July.

I think I'll have me a few beers, shoot some shit and blow some stuff up. That's America, love it or leave it!

We're not talking about 'mens outdoor cooking' though are we.
We're talking about BBQ. Which yanks seem to think involves things like beans and brown sugar.
    It doesn't.
It involves meat, fire, and onions at a pinch.

Thanks Topper and everyone else for the compliments(and greens).

Dave48...no the wine was leaded. Blame my wife. But I hardly drink anything at all normally. Wouldn't have been sacrificing much to join your Dry July cause.

Bush's BBQ Baked Beans. Though I did drain off some of their sauce and replaced it with my own.

I get your point Cujo. Technically to me BBQ means smoking multiple briskets on a big fuck-off old school BBQ Pit, or things similar to that, like a whole hog. What I did with these pork chops is technically grilling. Since I only have a grill that's really what I'm doing with anything I'm cooking outdoors. But we Yanks use the terms BBQing and grilling interchangeably quite a lot...at least here in my region. I almost titled the thread SKkin's Grilling Follies but didn't. If the mods want to change it to that it's fine with me. Don't want to cause an int'l incident over it.

edit: when I say old school bbq pit I mean something like this:

    Thanks for the support Dill.

So yeah, what's up with "shrimp on the barbie" thing? You mean throw another prawn on the grill, right?

^Yeah Dave I'm old enough to have seen the original on TV here in the States. The first time I heard that expression was from Hogan. That was in the 1980s I think.
