Because you have no idea what BBQ is the shit you have described in grilling and any monkey can do that. There is a difference as there is nothing better that REAL American BBQ clearly you have never had it. Slow smoked ribs, brisket, chicken etc smoked low and slow with indirect heat for hours with hickory or some other hardwood and yes beans are a side dish. Here is some from a BBQ place I went to awhile back. The color of those ribs shows that the smoke has penetrated into the meat and left a bark outside. It is fucking amazing. Behind it on the bread is some pulled pork.

This is some my lady did on our home BBQ with hickory. It ain't fucking the grilling you talk about that isn't BBQ. Not to us Americans.

Not as pretty as the pro stuff above but smokey and amazing in the flavor packed into that.

In summary you lot Grill you do not BBQ and yes beans are a part of it and it was so way before the limeys bastardized them into a breakfast food.

Grilling is applying heat from above. Like you would do to get a grilled cheese sandwich.
The word grill is also a noun and when used in reference to a BBQ is part of the thing you put the meat on.
The other part being the 'plate'.

Here's a good example of a plate placed on a grill for BBQing (not 'grilling')

SK's BBQ looks brilliant. Haven't had cornbread since splitting from my ex (about the only thing I miss). I need to find a recipe and the makings, as well as brushing up on my Mexican food skills.

Did this couple times with Mexican friends. Think will introduce Isaan neighbors to the technique.

Ok...I'm confused. Applying heat from above to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Right.

You must have been on a hiatus when we went through this a couple of years ago. Grill, broil, whatever was heavily discussed. Turns out the Brits make their grilled cheese under the broiler. Not cooked or toasted in a pan with butter..

These are not my pinto's and ham hocks, but this is what I grew up eating barbecue with. Not the sweet kind of beans for our family. Usually throw in some nice chilies as well.

Applying heat from above is called broiling or so I thought.

Grilling is cooking with open flames over a hot fire sans pot, pan or any other cooking implement between the product and the flames. If the flame doesn't touch the meat at some point, it ain't grillin'

Never heard it called that till I looked for this image.

Suppose it all comes down to what country you come from.

Our home oven has this and it's names as 'The Grill' on the temp control.

    Grilling ... heat from above

We and they grill it in the grill. "Broiling" is not a thing. It's a fake term coined as a joke to confuse non yanks.
