No grandkids with us today and still a bit cool outdoors...but I'm going to give these a whirl later today on the grill.

That's a rib eye and a NY strip marinating in what's pictured. We'll see what happens. Neither my new BBQ grill or my smoker does well in cooler weather. Need to find an insulating sleeve for the smoker.

If no pics later, you'll know it didn't work out so well. Needs to be about 70 F or above for this barby and we're supposed to have 68 F. But I'm really craving a steak done outdoors.

The BBQ grill in question...should have paid more attention to the burner BTUs before I bought it. Coulda woulda shoulda... You can probably spot some of the dents that brought the price down.

Smoker same thing, should have bought the dual burner model. Live and learn.

Wanted to try out the little smoker tube the wife got me for Xmas. So I started the steaks off on indirect heat once I started to get some smoke. The thing works much better than the steel box smoker I used to use in my other grill. Was impressed. Anyway apparently the steaks got more heat than wanted indirectly as they ended up a little more done than I was shooting for...as you'll see later.

After some smoking put them on direct heat to get some marks on the steaks. Almost done here...actually I should have pulled them off right here.

Here's dinner...steak with mushrooms and onion, baked potato with butter and sour cream and some raw veggies. I had the strip steak and wife had the rib-eye.

The money shot of my strip steak...medium? or medium well? Intended more like medium rare.

The wife's rib-eye was quite a bit more pink. But I think it was a thicker steak. Oh well, I was more than happy with the strip and it was still very tender. Fixed that craving I had.

Propane is best in my situation. Wouldn't mind trying that sometime though.

fair enough. try wrapping them in foil and popping them onto the direct, next time. There's something that just makes them taste better.

Have done that before but didn't have time to mess with it today. I agree though, they do seem to taste better. Probably even more so if using charcoal.

Looks good aside from the fact that you cooked the steak to long. I really like those little smokers and have used them to great effect in the past.

In a webber. Sorry, also had a half bottle of red, and 3/4 bottle of whiskey.

Served with tators, carrots, onions, garlic, asparagus and a red wine gravy. (cooked in oven by missus)

Manwiches for lunch was the plan but none left.

    I can understand that...looked delicious.

Starting to finally warm up outside here. Hope the meats aren't cleaned out again on the next shopping trip. Like to try smoking some beef short ribs if I can find any.

Best bit is that my family hate the fat, so I trimmed it all and scoffed the lot!

all else was done in the oven, cos I wanted to cook them at 300f (except the gravy and asparagus, they were done on the stove top)

It's all in the first pic. Salt, pepper, garlic, worcestershire sauce and olive oil.
