Thread: Xmas Dinner 2018

Decided on Hard Rock Cafe @999 baht each with kids under twelve eating free.

Did the midday sitting after staying in on Xmas Eve. It was half empty, which was nice.

Not a huge selection, but enough for me.
Really succulent roast turkey
Ham in maple syrup(would you believe that Jeff?)
And Beef Wellington


Starter- Pumpkin soup, which was delightful



Didnt get a pic of the veg but the brussel sprouts were mixed with bacon bits.
Dinner-


Desserts




And putting Xmas into perspective- Father Ray orphans singing Xmas Carols. Bless 'em.


And a Flippa band singing xmas hits.


The bill just short of 3k with one cocktail and a lot of hangover beating fruit shakes.

Highly recommended for 3 hours of pigging out.

Don't know how you managed to give the joint with the Elton John / Elvis show a swerve . That spread ^ looks really tasty, didn't even know the HRC was doing a Christmas lunch/dinner. Have never seen so many places doing something here as this year, but there's more than a few bad reports doing the rounds and a common theme of nowhere being busy.

Anyway here's my 3 courses, all were very nice and we were happy.

yeah I've seen a few bad reviews, I'd be a bit disgruntled paying 3 times what most of them charge for a normal Sunday Dinner which aren't the best anyway
That Jamesons place got some flack
I discovered that Aroi Restaurant though through reviews and although only in the mood to rehydrate and only eat a starter the food looks pretty good.

^Aroi is great, all his food is good and he (Emil) does a Sunday carvery that's well worth a visit and great value. You're a Darksider and you just found it??!. There's a bakery on the same side just about 100 metres towards Sukhumvit from there for good breakfasts too.

I worked Christmas Day and 'Lunch' was a sandwich from the 7/11

All looks great.



I don't go in for all the pictures of food stuff but the missus took this one of my humble offering. 6 kilo bird from a neighbours farm. Bloody lovely it was.

Unfortunately I couldn't eat more than a few forks fulls of my Xmas dinner on account of hammering the Xmas cheer the eve before.

However, I did make a point of forcing down the 6 sprouts on my plate, not bitter at all.

Might have some more tonight with roast beef..

Of course not - that's why they were so nice!



I did use the somtam peeler to peel them though to give extra surface area to crisp up. Had to use M&S sausage stuffing tray thing though as the butcher had run out of forcemeat.

Not sure who you had in your entourage Dill but the old saying "Live like a farang pay like a farang" comes to mind. I paid less than that in Australia.

Tenderloin Sirloin with all the trimmings, supposed to have it on Christmas but woofed it down tonight..

Most of the people I have spoken to have given me their thumbs up about the Christmas Dinners they had with The Loft Pub, The Loft Resort, Sunny's, Greg's Little House and Retox Outback all receiving good reports.

Last Year's offerings were disastrous and it is good to see people can learn from their mistakes.

Marmite on toast for me, with a mug of builders tea. At least there were no disgusting sprouts to force down.

The latest strain of sprouts have been cultivated to be sweeter than their bitter predecessors.
Quite moorish and have the appearance of baby cabbages, plus they're a natural viagra.

Not that anyone needs that, but it a pleasant natural boost

Worst ever, started with we know what you really want so don't expect orders and delivery to match, followed by garlic prawns that looked and tasted like transport cafe pate, a fairly decent few spoons of soup, main dish was turkey scraps swimming in heavily salted gravy, shrivelled greasy yorkie, one of the spuds was chewable, cabbage heart literally bent my fork, two soggy sprouts, carrots are carrots, followed by something they presented as cheese and biscuits which was technically correct; wasn't even worth taking pics.

Can't be two establishments in Pty taking the same piss, so name and shame if I've just described your Christmas lunch!

...^so, an authentic meal then...

Insult to injury that we still had to pay.

The Christmas lunches from Dill and Headworx look pretty good to me. Mrs Troy was ill so we cancelled Christmas lunch for this year. I hope to make it up over the new year parties. I have a whole pig that needs devouring, although I wanted it spit-roasted but no-one else agrees.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't, seeing as you wouldn't have to import any meat into Oz.

As options went over here, the Hard Rock was on a par with the local bars, one of those that Loy Toy mentions getting good reviews didn't even have a turkey or Xmas pudding and wanted 450baht for kids to eat.

Fuck those local shitty bars with their massive mark ups on what they normally charge for a mass produced Sunday dinner
